Finding My Audience

In the past month this blog monetization project has taken another interesting turn. I think I've sussed out my audience.

If your "product" is your blog, then that gets to be a lot important, it seems to me. How do you know what to write if you don't know who you're talking to?

So...here goes:

My audience is mostly made up of the "other ones," the ones who are what I like to think of as the "Loyal Opposition." (They love and honor Life Its Own Self, but are not so yipsy about walking in lockstep with the other people around them.)

They need to have the room and the time to think deep thoughts beyond basic survival moves.

They are achievement junkies and empirical thinkers, one and all, with a propensity for doing -- for being curious and for following their curiosity -- and they need to value the experiences they have had.

My audience members need to be able to slot their experiences into a bigger picture than just the body-one and the na'au (gut) thing about survival and they will tend to favor growth over fixity and possible stagnation.

They aim for insight and for understanding rather than chasing only after pleasure and "good times" and being right-right-right.

They need to value personal freedom (for themselves and for the others in their lives) and they also need to know that it is a heck of a lot more than just doing what they want to do in the moment.

They need to be about getting to excellence. "Good enough" is okay, but my audience will want more than just living like a grub.

They need to be able to bring a high level of focus to any task they choose to undertake.

I want the ones who are fascinated by our human-ness -- all the various ways we walk. I want to talk with the ones who are looking to find ways to use the skills and resources they've already developed to build up their own mana and the meaningfulness of their own lives.

I want the ones who want to create their own kind of beauty and their own peace of mind.

These people need to be about being the best they can be while they are also needing to step out of their own world to touch other people and to hold those others as being valuable as well.

Connection has to be a part of it too because the lone wolf life isn't really a happy or meaningful one. It's just another level of snarky.

My audience members have to be willing to work on mitigating the effects of the shadow-side of being human, which they know is in them as well as in the others around them. They understand that they may be made of the stuff of stars and rainbows and butterflies, but there's a lot of mud and gunk in there as well.

They also need to be willing to look past mundanities -- money, appearance, accolades and all that stuff that tends to distract us humans from our own magical human-ness.

It would be a good thing as well if they could look past short-term gratifications and consciously look at long-term consequences -- how the actions they choose to take affects the worlds of the other people around them.

It would also be a good thing if they were aware of how small they really are in the grander scheme of things and how little they know. It would be great if they are willing to grow past where they've already grown.

Hmmm....

You know, after doing this exercise I realized that I do demand a lot from my audience. It's been helping me in a lot of ways to aim so very high.

Thanks, you guys....

Well said, Netta!

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff.

Netta

You're very welcome, Netta!

Jeff

I think it's great that you've identified what you expect from your audience. Though it may reduce the number who will click through from your site to the next step, it should also increase the conversion rate from that point because the individuals are much more qualified. Good idea!

Thanks, Jeannine!

Interesting...
Those are some high goals of what you want...
What do other people want?
If you check out ParthaB and his posts, he has explained how to find out what people are acting searching for...
Secondly, do some research and look for websites that cater to yours. You can learn what their 'attractor factors' are, and maybe that will help you to come up with some new ideas.

It's possible that you're thinking on a grand scale, and the niche is wide open for interpretation. See if you can hone it down to be more specialized.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you, Rudy. That is exceptionally good advice, I am thinking. You help me find another direction to explore.
