Considering Monetizing Moves
Okay. I am getting really close to starting in on monetizing my "LIFE-BUILT POEMS: Living Out Loud" site.
- I've been developing a sustainable way of producing quality posts and it looks like I can at least produce a couple of posts each month that meet the quality control standards I've set.
- I've continued to gain an audience of sorts.
- I have a nice inventory of evergreen posts that I have been working my way through, asking for comments from all you grand WA folks.
- Doing that has allowed me to rework some not-so-great posts and get them to better.
- I am also reminded of various aspects of a topic that I've already covered that could be expanded or taken off into some other, also interesting direction.
- This is the funnest part of this thing I'm doing.
- I've been putting up a post featuring one from my site once a week on Linked-In.
- I keep telling myself that I'm going to try to get better at doing the Pinterest dance as well. Working on it.
- I am developing a distinctive voice and presence that I am liking.
- I have a much better idea of the direction I want to take this thing.
- I have been working out how to make room and time for doing the next phase of this thing -- clearing up a lot of old needlessly time-consuming stuff, renegotiating previous obligations and completing assorted past commitments and re-thinking how to be more efficient in meeting my day-job obligations while continuing to build this baby blog.
- I am learning more and more about interacting with all the little 'bots that run around in here and learning how to "suck up" to algorythms and all that -- something I really sucked at way back when I first started.
- Offering feedback on the WA Feedback platform has allowed me to study other people's efforts and given me a way better idea of the kinds of things they are doing with their stuff. I am amazed at the creativity I am seeing.
It's been three years now since I started this. I've learned a great deal and am mostly happy with what I've produced so far.
With my site, I have tried to develop a place that is a kind of a breathing-space and oasis, where my users have to slow themselves down so they can enjoy what I have to offer.
So now comes the monetizing part, which is likely to introduce a whole other energy to this endeavor.
I'll probably go with affiliate marketing moves first while working on building books and other products that are mine.
I think I am needing to develop a second Gravatar persona for the money-part of this thing, keeping it totally separate from the magazine-like format I've been building. I definitely want to keep the blog as an oasis and breathing space.
That's what I'm working on now.
Hope things are going good for you guys.

Hi Netta. The only thing that beats a plan is working it.
Best wishes as you start to work at monetizing your sites.
We can all fall into the trap of fighting those algorithms when we should work with them.
Patience and perseverance, and you certainly seem to have both--wishing you fantastic success in your monetizing efforts!!

Best wishes to monetizing your site. Some great programs are Hastings, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon, and you can even use programs like Adsense if you like to monetize the site but it may ruin the aesthetics you are going for as they are less about content based ads now and more about showing people interest-based ads.
