Which Niche Please?

It's been a week since I joined WA. And like many of you, I hope, I am now wondering which niche (that I have narrowed down to) to do? Or should I do all three and work them according to priority? Before that, let me share the story of my journey so far.

Brand or Keyword?

In Lesson 1, I chose the niche - Travel in Asia. First, I thought it would be a good idea to use keywords for my domain name (totally forgetting my years of experience in digital marketing, and branding). So I bought http://bestplacestovisitinasia.com/.

Then I read an article here on WA that reminded me of brand domain names. Somehow, in the haste and excitement of things, I forgot what I used to preach to my clients - it is not necessary for SEO and rankings on 1st Page of Google and search engines that the domain name have keywords. (I have seen many sites with keywords in the domain name and they rank poorly).

Also, I have always managed to help clients' sites, with brand domain names, to rank on 1st Page of Google and search engines. Always managed to do that within 3 months. So really, not necessary to have keywords in domain name. Having remembered this, I started to think about Branding.

Branding It Is

Inspiration struck and I thought of the word - Fantabulous. Actually it's a word I use quite often; e.g.I would often wish people 'Have a Fantabulous Day!' Then I thought of - Fantabulous Asia. I could see brand expansion to Fantabulous Europe, Fantabulous Middle East or even narrow down to Fantabulous London, Fantabulous India, etc.

With that in mind, I bought http://fantabulousasia.com/. I followed the rest off Lesson 1 and quickly created the website. Just the framework. Not much content yet. After all, it's only been a few days since I started these websites.

All this while I have been discussing with Kyle about choice of niche. In one of his replies, he suggested Asia Travelling Gems. And I like the idea and name. And again, can see brand expansion into Europe Travelling Gems,India Travelling Gems, etc. But, after doing keyword research, I saw more value in Asia Travel Gems. So I bought http://asiatravelgems.com/, and also created the framework of the website very quickly.

Emerging Strategies

Along the way, Kyle has been great support. We discussed about the website, and he liked it. He also suggested for me to go through Affiliate Bootcamp to get more training that will help me. I think I misunderstood and thought he is suggesting I focus on doing WA Affiliate first.

It is possible for me to do WA Affiliate, too. I am a freelance Digital Marketing Consultant, and I meet many people at events that I can approach to be a WA Affiliate. Also, I conduct training and workshop where I can share about types of businesses people can do online to make money. So for a few days I was going back and forth - do Asia Travel Gems or WA Affiliate?

Then this morning, I was inspired to do another niche - Hair Loss for Men.

A little secret here - my hair is thinning. Has been thinning since the early 2000s. I had tried Propecia, Regaine, and various hair growth lotions. Now, I am using hair concealers (again tried a few), and also hair growth lotion. And the thought came to me this morning during yoga - Why not this niche?

I do have a lot to say about this topic. I was just very shy to talk about it openly. You know - balding is not something sweet to discuss openly. Especially here in Asia. But now, I am willing to do it for this business.

All or One?

I would like to do all 3 niches. And I thought of doing all 3, and have priorities for each. I do see the Asia Travel niche as something that will take time to build. I do have many past travels to share. But it will take time to write articles about each place I visited. And in the coming year, 2017, I will be visiting more cities. So there's definitely more content coming. So this can be the lowest priority niche.

I am struggling with whether to give Hair Loss for Men 1st priority or WA? I can do both easily. And quickly too. I can create websites, and write articles fast.

So questions are - Should I do All or just focus on One? And if All, I know Travel is lowest priority, which do you think I should give higher priority - Hair Loss or WA?

Look forward to hearing from all of you! :)

Hi Timotheus, Any niches can have their own market and customers. So it is up to one to explore the marketplace. Looking at your experiences, I'm sure you have no problem at all in creating a few niches and test the market. Go for it and all the best, Sadie.

Thanks so much Sadie. Appreciate your encouragement and confidence in me. :)

Only you can decide which particular niche you would like to choose. Personally, I would focus on one niche only (at least, in the early stages of your business).

Thanks Stephen. Yes, I know only I can decide this. I guess I am a little concerned that if I choose a niche that's not a good choice, I may end up wasting months of time. So thought it would be good to ask the community, sort of like market research I suppose.

Also, I do hear many saying best to start and focus on one niche. That's why I thought to prioritize the 3. I will definitely focus on the one with the highest priority. But I would like to keep the other alive.

Even if you make the wrong choice, at least you made a choice. There's nothing worse than analysis paralysis.

I'm a real estate investor and I have seen many people being way too cautious and over-hesitant about making a choice. Years go by and they haven't made a decision because they're still "analysing the market". In the meantime, they could've grown their capital by tens of thousands of dollars, had they only taken a calculated risk and made a decision.

I am thankful for your advice, my friend. :)

No worries. Best of luck, mate!

Gasp! I don't want to be like that. :)
That's why this blog, and asking community. I am definitely deciding by end of this week. :)

Also, if you do choose the 'wrong' niche, it's still not wasted... you will learn a great deal and you will learn about the things that don't work. It will be a good foundation, either way, for you to learn about how to build up a niche.

Ask any of the successful WA members how many of them are still maintaining their first niche ;)

Good point, Lunatrix! Thanks! :)
