Hi Everyone!

I wrote a new blog post for Asia Travel Gems - https://asiatravelgems.com/best-places-to-visit-in...

And a check on rankings found my content on Page 2, and my website has climbed 6 positions on Page 3. And it has only been 3 weeks since I created this website. :)

Here are screenshots of my content on Page 2:

A close up on relevant areas of the above screenshot:

Here's the screenshot of Page 3 where my site has climbed 6 positions since the last time I checked:

Google.com vs Google.com.sg

Here's the interesting part! The above searches were done on Google.com.sg - which is the default search url cos I am in Singapore. But when I force the search to be Google.com, the results were a little different.

The content on Page 2 was still the same. Only difference is that only 1 of Asia Travel Gems' YouTube videos made it to Page 2 there.

The nice surprise is that Asia Travel Gems website ranked at the top of the Page 3 search results. See the screenshot below:

*** TIP - When Monitoring Search Results

Notice in the screenshots above, that I have signed out of my Google account (you can tell by the blue - Sign In - icon at the top right corner)?

It is good to sign out of your Google account before you do a keyword search and monitor where you site is ranking on search results. This is because if you don't the search results you get may be a little skewed.

After you have logged in to your Google account, and as you surf around on the browser, Google and other websites can track and take note of your web activities. So when you visit your own website regularly, Google interprets this as - this site is important to you. And as such, when you search for keywords of your website, they will place your website higher - usually even on the 1st Page of Google.

One tell tale sign is seeing your Google Plus accounts postings on the search results. Especially when there is many of your posts on the search results.

So How Best To Monitor Your Website Ranking?

It is best to Sign Out of your Google account before you type in the search terms that you are using for your website, and then search. Usually, you will see different search results when you are signed in and signed out.

Another good way is to do the rank monitoring on another device - one that you have not signed in to. This is what I do. Or you can ask someone else to do the search for you. Chances are they have not signed in to your Google account, and the results will be more accurate.

I hope this tip helps.

I will continue to monitor the ranking of my websites, and share here with all.

Wishing Everyone A Very Successful Year 2017! :)

I just would like to add that I'm in Australia and I see the same results as you Tim when searching... does google do regional ranking as in Asia and Australia would be different than UK and USA? I thought it would be the same because you're using google.com right?

Thanks for the feedback on search results! Good to know it's the same in Australia! :)

Yes, I am using both google.com.sg and google.com to monitor the rankings. And using Incognito and Private Browsing as well as using other devices and asking friends in other countries to reconfirm the rankings.

Google.com would be the best gauge for the correct ranking. And I noticed that on google.com, the rankings for my website fare better.

As for geolocation affecting ranking - yes. Ranking will appear similar for certain locations or region, and different in other regions.

I do notice that, in time, the ranking will have a chance of appearing very similar in almost all regions; e.g. one of the sites I did for my clients is on 1st Page search results no matter where a person is doing the search from - I know this because they have received enquiries from all over the world; e.g. search done in USA, Asia or Europe. And have received feedback that they were found on 1st Page.

Of cos for the above to happen, it will take a bit longer time, and consistent creation of valuable, relevant and interesting content, plus many other SEO strategies.

hope this helps ;)

Thanks. I am really curious why I see it in Incognito but you and Onmyownterms are not able to?

could be something to do with geo-location???????

perhaps. i had friends in indonesia and hong kong do the search, and they had the same results.

it;s ok. no worries. let's not dwell on this.

it does look like Google serves different results to different people. and we will never know cos we're not Google.

let it be.

thanks.

HAHA TRUE N UR WELCOME TIIM

It is no use doing ANY searches for your own site unless you are in INCOGNITO

I just did that. I browsed on desktop using Chrome with INCOGNITO and PRIVATE BROWSING with Firefox.

And I still get the same results.

Not sure why you guys are not seeing the same. Are you using GOOGLE.COM or GOOGLE.COM.AU or whichever country you are in?

Thanks. I know your good intentions. It is also good so that I know. I have been doing digital marketing for over 20 years. So I do know about this.

As I mentioned I did check in Incognito. See the 2 screenshots. You can see the incognito frame of the browser at the top.

Actually, when you sign out of Google, it will be the same.

Ah yes, nor me, if you are using google (which I am assuming you are then , so do as Onmyownterms suggests and look in incognito. xlick on the 3 horizontal lines right at the top right of your browser screen and select new incognito window and type your query in again there mate. It will give you the results as a standard internet user!

Are you viewing this in an incognito session? Because when I do the search, you do not have these positions.

I do incognito using my mobile phone. And I still see the same results here. Thanks

OK, I just wanted to share that not everyone gets this when searching.

Just did Private Browsing using Firefox, and I still get the same results. And double checked on my mobile phone too.

Also just did incognito on Chrome on desktop. Still see the same results. Did you type - Best Places To Visit In Thimphu Bhutan?

I am really curious why I see it in Incognito here but you and Simowatto are unable to?

It may be regional difference - I am in the US.
