GoGetters Training Update - Videos 13 and 14

I am catching up as fast as I can. And am now at Video 15. This means that I have watched Videos 13 and 14 and here are the summaries of each of them.

Video 13 - How To Find Broken Links

Remember that Bo wants us to get our websites in order. And one of the things to get it in order is to Resolve Broken Links.

It is easy to do this. Simply get the plugin - Broken Link Checker. Install and Activate it.

Then go to Tools > Broken Link. You will see a list of broken links. Under each link there are options such as Edit URL, Unlink, Not broken, Dismiss, Recheck. What you need to do is click on each link to see if it is truly broken. And if it is, choose one of these options.

Most of the times I find that a site or web page that was left in the Comments section resulted in a broken link. So I click the link to double check. Then if truly broken, then I simply Unlink it. There! Resolved! Easy, isn't it? :)

404 Issues

As I write this blog post, I did the Broken Link check again. Surprise! Surprise! A few more broken links found.

This was because I changed the names of some of the menu sections. And forgot to update the links that were part of those sections. This tool is truly helpful! :)

How I resolved these 404 issues was to Go To the Page or Post that the tool said has broken links. I look through all the links to see which are broken. One way to find these broken links is to see those links which has been striked through. This is an indication that the link is not working.

After that, I simply pointed the link to the new and correct link. Then I click on the Recheck option to make sure there are no other broken links on that page or post. When there are no more, the tool will pop a message to say the link no longer is found.

Video 14 - Duplicate Content

Duplicate Content is another issue, and can affect the ranking of our site and pages/posts.

There is a simple fix to this using All In One SEO (AIOSEO).

At AIOSEO, go to General Settings > check Canonical URLs and No Pagination for Canonical URLs. Then Update Options.

You will need to Activate XML Sitemaps in AIOSEO too.
