Hi All,

I'd like to "clone" a website I currently have that is linked to my own personal Domain name and the is live.

I would then like to make a lot of changes t

Support can set up a staging site for you quickly and easily and in minutes. I’ve done it several times 😎👍🏼 Then you can make as many changes as you like to the staging site without affecting your “live” site. If you decide tou like the changes of the staging site, instead of having to now implement them to the live site, you just move it over. Done and done. 😎👍🏼

Another way to fo ahead is to go to the dashboard click tools, export, export all, then save on your hard drive. Create a new site and to tools/import and then WP and import. The process takes about three minutes

i would get support to create a staging site for you ...
then you can make all the changes you like ...
and 'move' it back to your domain ( overwriting ) what is there and updating it with the new one....

Hey Glynn,

Ask permission to install and use a backup plugin. See screen print for training on this...

Hope you find this helpful.

How do I clone a live website - best way to go about it with little hassle?

What is the best way of placing a whole website to sleep until you need it again?

I have a website purely for specific events which last a limited time.

I want to

You can set up an advertising or marketing static page, informing your guests of the next event, you may also allow your visitors leave their best email address to get notified.

You can go to Settings > Reading and set up your blog to your static page, the one you build.

Job done.

It is better than a under construction page.

Yes good idea. Thank you! :-)

I would as Phil as archive the posts

hey Glynn, i just came asross this article and thought of you ...
never looked at this before so a learning process for me as well - so thank you...
it looks like a good method of keeping the content there, but putting it in the background....
have fun
https://rankmath.com/blog/how-to-archive-wordpress-posts/

Thanks Phil, funnily enough I just started to use RankMath as a replacement for AIOSEO which is a bit expensive.

Thank you :-)

Hey Glynn,

If you seriously want Google to stop indexing that site for now, make sure you Discourage search engines from indexing this site... as seen in the screen print below...

If you have moved content from THIS site to another, be sure to add redirects from THIS site to the site you've moved the content to, so that Google will be able to redirect their clients searching for that content.

Once you're ready to make THIS site active again, you will need to UNCHECK the Discourage search engines from indexing this site, and be sure to Save Changes.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you for your comments. Noted! :-)

Hi Phil has you covered well here.

Social Engagement & Marketing

What do you use for publishing your content to all your Social Media platforms?

There are many solutions out there but I'm interested to know what the majority of WA mem

My WordPress theme automatically has the links for my social media sites built in. No plug-ins. I don't use them for the same reason as Trish mentioned. I think manually is the best option. I only have a few of them. I prefer YouTube and Instagram (not FaceBook-Fakebook, Twitter (now that it's messed up), or any other social media outlets.

Hey Glynn,

Just reading your responses to others.

Tailwind is what you're after.

Although it offers less social media platforms than Hootsuite, i.e. Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest, Tailwind does have far higher ratings.

Plus, many of these "freelancers" who offer social media marketing services also use Tailwind to get the job done for clients.

Partha

Thank you, yes I have heard of this one but thanks for the reminder. I will check it out again!

Glynn

d o you not click on each of your share buttons ( to make sure they work ) and to add them to each of your accounts....
how long does that take ( and it makes sure they are setup correctly....)

i do have an ocoya (ocoya.com) account as well they are having a bf deal on appsumo at the moment...

Thank you, will check this out as well. I do use the method you mention but trying to free up some time.

Thank you.

Glynn

Hey Glynn,

I used to use a WordPress plugin to auto-promote my content on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter.

After noticing a significant decrease of traffic to that site, I deactivated the plugin and started manually promoting instead and gain some traffic back.

Have continued to manually promote as that is what works best for my site.

Kyle wrote a post a few years ago regarding auto-promoting our content and he shared his findings but I could not find that post when searching the WA platform.

Hope you find this helpful.

Yes, I am after something like Hootusite but that's expensive. I can understand a plugin causing a decrease in traffic.
I note people mentioning Sassy Social but you still have to do it manually.

Thanks for the reply.

I follow the advice - partially - from some WA training: publish a blurb about each post on my facebook page specifically designed for that blog; publish blurb about each post on Twitter, and at the same time make a few comments, kikes, etc on Twitter. I was doing a little on pinterest but something changed there and I stopped.

Quick questions concerning "No Follow":

If my website has links to great content on WA, should I "Add No Follow" by selecting the tick box?

What does selecting

Good question. Guys got you covered.

Your website has what's called "link juice". Simplifying, this is a measure of Google's trust in your site. If a link has a "do follow", some of that link juice is being passed to the site being linked to. With a "no follow", it's not.

You should always use "no follow" with an affiliate link.

You should always request a "do follow" for a link back to your site, particularly from a site with a high domain authority as it will help yours.

You're welcome, Pierre.

You are telling the Google bots not to follow the link when they crawl your site, basically.

Thanks for the reply.

OK, I get your reply but if the link is going to WA content, would it make sense to "ALLOW" the follow as were are promoting WA anyway?

Thank you.

Yes, you don't want to check the box for those. Just affiliate links.

Excellent thank you :-)

Hey Glynn,

Asked Google your question and it is in a screen print below...

Second screen print shows you all of the awesome training that has been shared on the WA platform regarding nofollow links.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.

Ok, I'm not really talking about ping pong but I'd like to know your thoughts on the below question, please. :-)

If you have a few websites, is it ok to refer to content

I think its a god idea! The sites can work together and hopefully build off each other without duplicating content.

-Mike

Hey Glynn,

Yes, of course it is a very wise idea to link to relevant information between your own websites.

Not sure why you would hesitate to think otherwise, as Kyle teaches us to link to relevant information offered on other sites.

Just make sure the links are relevant to the post your linking to.

The only issue you MAY be faced with is... if the site you link to has low quality content on it. Then Google will ignore the external link.

Hope you find this helpful.

It should be fine to do.

Mel

Hey Glynn,

I'm definitely not the expert on this!

But, I believe if what you're linking from and to, are relative, it should be ok and each website would probably even help each other in the long run, as they gain authority.

But, as I said, I'm definitely not the end all be all when it comes to this, so I look forward to reading the comments from people with more experience than me.

Good luck with what you decide to do :)

Zach "The Prosperous View"

I'm still new at this I think that's an awesome idea. Please let me know it's it's doable.
