Do you have the latest version? It was updated last week to Version 3.1.3. Have you activated the API key?
If you have followed the steps as shown here: How to Install Akismet - Protect Your Website From Spam This might help too: How To Get Your Akismet Key For Free If it is still not working, you may need to deactivate it and do a fresh reinstall of the plugin.
