Are We Marketers OR Tech Troubleshooters?

When I first decided I wanted to earn my living on the Internet, I never realize that there would be so much technology to learn and maintain.

It seems that most online marketers spend more time in their back office repairing things and making adjustments than they do out in the field selling and promoting products and services.

Why do we need to understand algorithms?

Why do we need to install plug-ins and update plug-ins?

Why do we need to be WordPress experts?

It makes more sense, to just find a product or service that way like, and share it with other people that may benefit from it.

Are you a technology troubleshooter?

I guess we need to be both marketers and technical troubleshooters at the onset of our online marketing journey. As we become successful, we can start outsourcing aspects we are not comfortable with.
If we become really successful, we may decide to outsource the whole operation, but for now, it is better if we know both the marketing and technical aspects of affiliate marketing so we can troubleshoot and fix minor problems on our own.

It is a conundrum. In theory, we do not need to be tech-savvy to use word press. It works just fine out of the box.

In reality, we can find ourselves caught up in the minutiae of running a site and as Alex says we can end up going down the rabbit warren.

As we strive for success, then we may find ourselves dropping down the rabbit hole more and more.

A bit of a catch-22 situation. I am not sure there is any right answer, other than what we are comfortable with, or what we can live with.

As our sites grow I for one would look to farm the more technological questions out. But that takes money.

It can be easy to fall down the I don't know anything about technology and my website has to be technically perfect, rabbit warren.

The truth is WP is one of the easier content management systems to master.

Having the fastest car doesn't win races knowing how to drive the car does.

Many over focus on the technical at the expense of marketing. The latter is what generates the money.

No money you give up and leave.

Why do I see SO many questions on WA about WordPress?

I haven't a clue when it comes to technology.
