When selecting a domain name is it legally acceptable to use a companies name in my domain name? An example would be say on a camera review site can the domain be CanonCameraRe

You could make it similar, like e.g. Candid Camera Reviews.

Thank you all for your comments. I was thinking that it was not a good idea, but wanted to get feedback from the community.

Hi thejuan,

No, I would not advise it, as you would probably be in breach of a trademark, and/or accused of "trading off". I have been involved in "domaining" for a number of years and although I see available domains all the time which include trademarks, I always avoid them like the plague. I know when entering a domain for auction, or listing one for sale at a domain sales site, or even parking a domain with a parking company, the terms and conditions will usually include a clause to the effect that you confirm that your domain does not infringe a TM. If you take a look at dnjournal.com you will be able to see a list of the latest domain sales and also a "sales to date" page, all the domains are generic. I usually do an online trademark search at the US PTO TESS site and the UK IPO site, (the latter lists UK, EU and world registrations). In most cases I don't come across anything likely to be problematic, if I do, I look for another name. Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

Not a good idea. It may not be an issue in the beginning, but if your blog becomes a success, there could be negative consequences.

If you take rankings from the company itself, they will likely look to shut you down. That's potentially a LOT of hard work to throw down the drain.

My advice is tread carefully when using a Brand in your blogs domain, title or elsewhere. Don't get caught with your pants down!

I would not do it to many companys like to sue

I don't think it is allowed. Read this posted by another member, he goes into it in more detail:

I don't recommend it.....good way to get sued or taken down.....your getting into copyright issues.
