The Discovery of Passion

Passion is often a word we hear when we talk about the essentials needed to set goals, and push ourselves to excel.

I’m totally willing to admit that I have often struggled to totally grasp the necessity of passion when it comes to starting a business, or living the life you love.

Obviously one wants to feel that their life is fulfilling, but how important is passion really?

I was listening to an interview with;
Millionaire Dan Miller.

You watch the interview at;

He shared these great insights on passion.

What is Passion:

…”What is it that puts you in the zone? What is it that makes your heart sing? However you want to term that, we ought to recognize those times when it just seems like The A Team, I love it when a plan comes together. We ought to be able to recognize those times and it’s in doing that and that’s very much an introspective process.”

Passion is Developed:

…”passion is not something that comes to you full blown. It’s something we develop. There ought to be seeds of an idea where we recognize it’s when I am doing this that I really come alive. But passion is something that’s developed.”

I personally liked his reference to the A-Team. I used to watch the original show when I was a kid, and my favorite moment was always when Hannibal Smith would say, “I love it when a plan comes together,” and the famous theme would play. To me this reference captures the feeling of having developed a solution to a problem, the creation of a plan (of course), and the excitement and satisfaction that comes with confidence in ones abilities, the plan, and seeing it all come together.

When he shared that passion is developed I could totally resonate with what he was saying.

It’s more likely that we will develop our passions as we reach for our goals, rather than simply having amazing passions that drive us to be top achievers.

One passion that I have, that I still haven’t utilized to help me in my business is my love for public speaking. It may seem weird, but I love to give talks, and speak to large groups of people. As I look back I can see how this passion was not an overnight thing. It developed as I developed. My job in high school gave my me a lot of experience with talking to the public which helped me learn and boost my confidence. Thus allowing me to discover a passion.

I think that when we think of passions, we have to think about what we would like to be really good at.

Truth be told if you are really good at something, chances are that you will enjoy it and it will become a personal passion.

With all that’s been said about passion, and it’s necessity for success I feel that the realization that it is more often developed than instantly summoned is a big deal.

You and I both want to feel as though we are making progress, and if we don’t feel we have discovered and mastered a passion it is easy to feel stagnant and frustrated.

So breath easy and realize that passion and excitement can build over time.

what you and I struggle with today my very well become a one of our passions down the road.

As we all work toward becoming who we want to be the greatest fight we have to face is that of doubt and the battle we have to remain motivated with a clarity of vision of purpose.

The simple realization that passion can be developed, though simple, has already began to alleviate some of my frustration, I hope it can do the same for you!

So as always remember that things take time, step back, breath, and take things one paw at a time. (and maybe try and find your groove…?)
