Looking Back

Do we focus on improvement or do we focus on attainment?

Although these things can come hand in hand, one always comes before the other.

Improvement comes before attainment.

This is because in order to attain a certain outcome we need to make improvements that help us to reach toward attainment through becoming more than we are.

It is natural to focus on attainment or accomplishment without seeing the significance of improvement and progression.

If we have a goal it is easy to become caught up in all we have to do to reach that goal, rather than notice the steps we have successfully made.

I was recently listening to an interview with;
Millionaire, Todd Herman
.
You can check out the interview at;

One thing that really stood out to me was his take on setting goals.

He essential said that when setting goals that we need to focus on the steps, and notice and reinforce improvements and progress.

He stated; that most people look forward and see how far they have left to go before they reach their goals, and feel overwhelmed. While those who are more successful look back and see how far they have come, they see improvement, their confidence and determination builds and they continue moving forward.

I found this insight to be quite powerful.

I realized that when I feel I struggle to maintain motivation, it is because I am looking at all I have left to do to reach my goals, rather looking back and seeing how far I have come.

I have always been a firm believer in the importance of our mindset and prospective, but of course I’ll be the first to admit I’m not perfect and am still trying to figure out how to fully get my head in gear.

So as I always say take things one paw at a time. Don’t get overwhelmed. And follow the great advice of Todd Herman and rather than look forward and see all you have left to do, look back and see how far you have come.

It’s hard to maintain motivation when all you focus on is a to-do-list, so look back and see your done list, and what have you accomplished.

Most of us are great at being self critical.

So we often have to stop and think, and let ourselves realize that “yeah! I have been successful, I did ______________…etc.”

For instance at Wealthy Affiliate what have you learn?
Have learned how to create blog posts?
Do you have a website up and running?
Look at how far you have come, it probably felt so far away at one point...

I feel a lot more motivated and empowered when I look back and see all I’ve accomplished, all the hurtles I’ve jumped, the latter’s I’ve climbed, and the goals I’ve reached.

Try it out, see how you feel?

I know I’m going to more conscience of this way have looking at things moving forward.

I think this could very well be a key to developing the mindset you and I need to in order to find the success and accomplishment that we are looking for.

Hi Evan

I too can get this way sometimes, panicking at how much I still need to do when like you said, I've actually created my own website! A year ago I would have laughed at even thinking about it! We should all be proud of the efforts and how far we have already come in our individual journeys! Thank you :-)

Heidi!
Thanks for stopping by to check out today's blog post.
I go through that too. I know right, just having a website up and running is really amazing when you think about how at one point we knew we wanted to do it, but we had no clue how and it really seemed out of reach.

Great to hear from you!

Hi Evan, it couldn't of been a more fitting blog for me today.

I'm in the process of renovating our newly purchased home and it is literally overwhelming.

With all the knowledge I have acquired over the past thirty years in the construction industry i'm still getting horrible surprises. However, one of the young carpenters working with me pointed out how much additional work that wasn't on the original list of jobs to do, we had actually already completed.

It really made me think.....yeah he's right.

So as I start on lesson four this evening it is with renewed vigour.

Thank you
Tommy

Glad to hear. It's great to hear how you had an opportunity to gain such a prospective first hand today. For me listening to the interview really help cause although I'd heard this notion of realizing how far I'd come before, I'm not sure I was really listening. When we are ready to listen it makes all the difference.

All the best to you with your renovations. I hope you find yourself with a home that both meets your needs, and sets you at ease.

Thanks for your comment filled with conviction and testimony of what was discussed in the post. You really helped add to the discussion today!

Thank You.
