Once upon a time… Both here and in a galaxy afar

I was in a bit of a pickle. I wouldn't normally admit to this, but you are my friends and fam!

Don’t judge me too harshly, will you?

It’s not that I wanted to be surrounded by clutter instead of working in an office that looked like Marie Kondo herself styled it.

The idea sounded very attractive, but I was super busy. Busy is growing my coaching business, busy growing my PLR business, and growing my product lines.

Busy systemizing and tweaking my business. Busy managing all of life’s little surprises that sneakily fill your day.......Like strikes. Not having any hot water for a fortnight, because my gas company was on strike. [hopefully, they coming on the 13th, which I sincerely hope will not be lucky!]

Thank you universe that I had started the Wim Hoff method of cold showers just before Xmas.

So while I was never living in a disaster zone, I overlook piles of clutter here and there in my study, neglected piles of paperwork.

I was never very patient with the paperwork, and my husband dealt with all that. I am sure he didn’t like it any more than I did, but I guess he knew it wouldn’t get done if he didn’t do it.

Eventually, I got sick and tired of the persistent voice inside my head telling me to “tidy up your space .”Don't give up on yourself, it took me three years to pay attention to that voice!

That is the problem with living in a large house there is a lot of places to squirrel away things you don’t want to deal with.

By the back end of 2020, I knew I had come to the end of my slackness rope, and it was tightening like a noose around my neck. My mess was affecting my day.

During the Christmas period, I knuckled down and did two times ten minute sessions of tidying up each day.

Just to be clear, it wasn’t by choice, even though I craved order. I couldn’t find my husbands death certificate, and I needed it to sell my house. I am sure he is somewhere in the Universel laughing his head off. I could find every death certificate in my family going back to my grandparents. Of course, I could, my husband had filed all of them away, but sadly couldn’t file away his own. In normal times you pay about ten dollars for a new certificate.

That’s one of the things I learned in lockdown. You can die yourself waiting for a copy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I enlisted the help of a friend to organize my office, and an extraordinary thing happened. Suddenly my mind was clearer.

By removing maybe fifteen books off my desk, only to the bookcase directly behind me, I could see the desk surface.

The reorganized tidy office has made me feel more confident, and it’s a daily reminder that I take my business seriously.

Even my cleaner says that in three years, she has never been able to clean my desk! Until now.

I find I am more able and willing to speak as a guest speaker on Virtual summits., I have been been invited to speak at two separate events

So it turned out that organizing and decluttering my physical space ultimately helped my brain space, too.

I’m sharing this with you today not because I think you need to drop everything and paint your office or buy new furniture...

I’m sharing this because a LOT of business headaches are solved by a clever mix of addressing your mindset + taking ACTION.

Either way for best results, the two go hand in hand.

I have been more able and willing to look at new solutions for my business. Moving my sales pages out of Clickfunnels because they no longer serve my purpose.

An example of strategic planning in action.

My coaching program “Authenticity” is built on five core business building pillars. These are the foundations that allow you to have an impact, simplicity, and maximum profit in your business.

I have been waiting to set this up for about nine months. Suddenly I have and an Internet marketing membership site. I can’t tell you how long that one was in the maybe next week stage.

Proper strategic foundations will set you up for repeatable success because you are not chasing shiny objects and getting thrown off course.

Without addressing your mindset, you are prey to, little mindset monsters chirping in your lugholes, sabotaging even the most ironclad systems.

All of these are just another example of how tiny changes can have massive impacts on both your business and your life.

I am glad you are moving forward. Your post has got me looking around and acting today.

There us some truth to 'clearing space'. Usually a minimalist, my stuff has been growing in leaps and bounds. I have what I call 'flat top itis'...where items will be placed on any flat surface instead of being put away. Well, sometimes, you're in a rush, you know, or between tasks and think you'll but it away later.

The past few months, I've been working with changing things...and finally decided, literally yesterday,, to start making space for me.

I had to laugh, Catherine, I only had 4 books to take from my desk, turn around and put them back in the bookcase...grin..

I really like the idea of ten minute sessions. I cleared my desk, made a couple stacks of documents one for legal and one for the shredder that arrives today. Only took about 10 minutes or so, and I felt much better, felt more focused too.

Rudy

How wonderful that you have taken action Rudy and got benefit from it

Thank you! Little steps may take longer to reach the goal, and a step forward is moving in the right direction!

Yes I agree

I have to agree with you Catherine. I moved two years ago and really hadn't settled in until the lock down started and I suddenly had so much more time on my hand.

By then I had been in this house 1 year and two months but still had boxes that hadn't been unpacked.

Like you I felt clearer and more motivated once I began to put things in order. Production improved too.

Candy Benn

I'm so pleased candy, Had the same effect for both of us. I am hoping when I leave this house, when it finally sells to walk out with just a rucksack, let's see if I'm brave enough to do it

Lol. Good luck

And you I wish you every success going forward

Thank you Catherine

Yes, a regular declutter works wonders for the feeling of well being. There is a sort of power to it.
Bux
