It’s not what everyone thinks.
In fact, those who buy lottery tickets don’t really expect to win. They know the odds are stacked astronomically against them.
So back to the question…
Why do they do it?
Well, here’s the truth…
They’re buying permission to dream about winning something.
If you think about it, $5 for a dream is well worth it.
Given how most of us live a pretty boring life, $5 for the dream of becoming fabulously wealthy isn’t too bad.
In short, these people aren’t stupid.
Sure, you can lecture them about saving those daily $5 purchases and create a logic tight argument about how their chances are slim to none…
But you can’t stop them from doing so.
After all, they’re not buying to win…
They’re buying to ‘escape’.
We do the same with clothes, movies, books, alcohol, drugs, and other things that whisk us away from real-life, even for a moment.
It’s fun.
It makes us feel good.
And frankly, most of us could use a little bit of both.
But of course, there’s a time and a place for everything.
If we want our dreams to be our reality we have to do better than just ‘escaping’ where we are now.
At the very least, you need to develop what we call a sense that anything is possible on this platform. The skill of being able to turn wishes and dreams into a working reality is something that can be learned.
Now, don’t freak out.
It just sounds harder than it actually is.
We have all been there and done it, sweated the blood, and finally got the teeshirt.
Look...
Buying lottery tickets is totally fine.
It’s okay to pay for a dream. We need an escape every now and then.
However, I also believe in taking action.

And sometimes, we simply don’t know how far we can go until someone in our corner shows us the way to go.

That's a great blog post and so very true!
I must admit I don't do the lottery, but I know many people who do! As a friend said to me; "someone has to win it, but at the same time there are millions more losers"!
I don't think many members realise what a goldmine they are potentially sitting on. There have been some great success stories coming out of Wealthy Affiliate. Members who literally didn't even know what affiliate marketing was and yet they quickly grew their business due to taking action.
If you want to succeed, you have to be an action taker, being on Facebook et cetera will not make you successful even we may be sitting in front of our computer!
I will take a look at Cassie's blog post, Cassi writes some great stuff and has really been a massive action taker. A great example of a success story.

You're right, Catherine. I would not have guessed that's why people buy lottery tickets. I've only bought a few for a game our small group played every year at our annual Christmas party.
But your point about doing more than just paying for a dream is well taken.

I rarely buy a lottery ticket. Although sometimes when I see there is a jackpot I do. It was $80m a few weeks ago, so I thought 'why not - someone will win it.' I never buy one expecting to win. But I figure I might win something. And it's fun for a minute.
I can't ever recall actually buying a lottery ticket in my life Catherine, but I knew many who did religiously.
I agree that spending a quick $5 on a dream, is not going to break the bank, and we all need to have dreams.
But as you say, being here at WA, if we take action and put everything we have learned here to good use, then we can build our own dreams.
If we put the effort in and never give up, then our greatest dreams can become reality.

Fantastic, Catherine😃, and so to the point. I do also indulge in a dream of winning by buying a lottery ticket every now and then. Who knows, it might be my day.
But I have already won the lottery as I can utilize the abundance of opportunities that exist everywhere to create the future I want.
