We go online to look for information for all sorts of things. Whether you’re looking for products or services to cater to your need, or for ideas and information to help you with your project - the Internet has it all. We even use the Internet as our source of entertainment, consuming content in the form of videos, articles and images on social media platforms and websites in our free time.

It’s hard to remember a time before all this existed.

Plus, the mobile Internet and our smartphones today has made it even more possible for us to access the Internet anytime, anywhere. So, it comes as no surprise that we’re consuming more content than ever before online, particularly on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

However, what does this mean for your business today?

This is where content marketing comes in.

What Is Content Marketing?

According to the Content Marketing Institute, content marketing can be defined as “a marketing technique of creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract and acquire a clearly defined audience – with the objective of driving profitable customer action.”

In other words, content marketing is about making use of relevant and attractive online content to help you build a massive audience for your brand, which will then lead to massive profits for your business.

Rather than attempt to sell your brand or product to potential customers, you bring the customers to you by giving them useful, valuable content that they would very likely be interested in.you have of course checked this information by researching your niche. you can do this be reading up in forums and checking what the problems are. When you have our ideas you can then cross check this info in Jaaxy.

Content marketing is not a one-off thing, like most traditional methods of marketing and advertising. Rather, it’s more of a long-term marketing strategy. By providing them with high-quality, useful content through content marketing, what you’re doing is connecting and building a relationship with your target audience group, and slowly gain their trust and loyalty, while subtly moving them towards making a decision and taking action, e.g.: making a purchase. You win them over, and over time, influence them to choose you over your competitors.

Does Content Marketing Work?

In fact, although the term “content marketing” may be new, the concept itself is not new at all. Content marketing has been in existence since the 1700s.

Even back then, people have been distributing content (albeit physical content) to potential customers in order to drive their businesses and increase sales.origannly sales copy was written in coffee shops and distributed through the streets by hand.

However, with the advent and growth of the Internet today, methods today are obviously way different than they were back then. There is, in fact, more opportunity now to reach the masses from anywhere in the world - which is a good thing. And also, the 2016 Pew Research Centre study has shown that almost half of 18- to 49-year-olds get their news and information online, and these numbers are growing - this means there’s a pretty large group of people who are looking for and consuming content online. Can you see the potential of content marketing right here?

A study by DemandGen has shown that content has the power to influence purchasing decisions - three out of four buyers in their survey mentioned that content from vendors had a significant impact on what they chose to buy. And not only that, according to Content Marketing Institute (2017), content marketing is able to get 3 times more leads compared to paid search advertising.

Content marketing works simply because this form of marketing allows you to demonstrate your credibility to your target audience. By sharing useful and valuable content (particularly content that solves a specific, relevant problem), you build trust in your target audience as they start to see you as the expert in your field. And with credibility and their trust, you have the power to influence their decisions.

Not only that, content marketing attracts people in the sense that it tells a story. And great stories always attract people. People enjoy hearing a good story, and they also have this tendency to share with others what they find interesting - which in turn will increase public awareness of your brand or product. In other words, sharing content will get people to engage with you, spread your message, and eventually, buy from you.

Also, content marketing is great for your site’s SEO - which helps you rank higher on Search Engine Result Pages (SERP). Since content marketing is purely based on content, your content will more often than not be linked to by other people, which reflects well on you when it comes to SEO - it tells Google that you are an authority in your field. This increases your chances of attracting more organic traffic for your brand, which in turn, will drive results.

Content Marketing Strategies

1. Research

Thoroughly research your niche and the problems in it. The more you understand your niche the easier it will be for you to write content. Content ideas should flow.

2. Content marketing calendar

Google loves consistency before the first of the month create a schedule including title for all the articles you will write in that month

3. Que them up for publishing. Use the publish later function within WP itself

Thanks for sharing this insightful post Catherine. Yes, it's easy to forget that content marketing has been around for centuries. It's just that the internet has transformed the way it's done nowadays. Research is something I spend a long time on before writing a post:)

Always a great strategy

Hey
Thank you for describing the benefits of content marketing, I like the credibility bit so important. If someone credible, their site will perform and convert so much better.
I use Answer Socrates for my research, I find it very detailed and gives me a lot of leeway to expand on my posts.
Thank you.
Your blog post is very inspiring.
I really appreciate it a lot.

Great resource thank you for sharing that Lula

You're welcome.

That's a good idea about storing them up. I'm always afraid somehow I'll lose them. I'm more of a content marketer; I plan a site that offers information; current and necessary, and later working in books/vids/ebooks/and gear-t-shirt. :) I like the article Catherine. Thank you for the additional information.

Success is all about content marketing As I have said I look forward to reading about your fabulous successes

Thank you Catherine! I pray you do!! :) Have a good week!
