A great podcast For Business and story telling
I received this email over the weekend
My new favorite podcast called 'How To Take Over The World' and I'm officially addicted to it.It's got everything I love:- Wild stories from history- Honest insights into the routines and habits of crazy successful people - Business strategy- And more.
The premise of the show is that you get an up close and personal look into the lives of history's most impactful people (like Steve Jobs, Julius Caesar, Thomas Edison, The Rothschilds and more). What I love is that it's not the traditional PR-puff stuff you might read in most books about these people. It's the messy stuff too.
The bad habits.
The weird routines. The stuff that truly shaped their identity. For example, in one episode about Thomas Edison, you find out he was extremely weird about the food he ate.He would go weeks without eating any solid foods -- just drinking milk. And he would NEVER eat before noon.
He also almost never got the 8 hours of sleep. Apparently he was lucky to get 4 hours most days. It's messy. But it's refreshing to hear that you don't have to have every single minute of your day planned back-to-back and only eat salmon and quinoa to be successful.
The flaws make the characters come to life and take on a new dimension in the story. So I love that. But that's not even the best part of the show. The absolute greatest thing is the host. He's an INCREDIBLE storyteller.
If you listen to episodes for nothing else, you could probably get a quick masterclass in copywriting just by paying attention to the way he speaks. He's kind of nerdy and started one episode by saying, "Okay, I've got 60 pages of notes here."60 PAGES OF NOTES!
But he keeps you listening the whole time. How?Because he picks out the details that tell you so much about people. For example in the first episode on Steve Jobs, he tells this one story about Steve's childhood where it was Hawaiian shirt day at school. And there's a photo where everyone in the class but one student is wearing their Hawaiian shirt.
The person without the shirt was NOT Steve... even though Steve did not wear a Hawaiian shirt to school that day.It was the kid standing right next to him. How? Steve had convinced him to switch! That story said so much more than any description could.
And that was how the host teed up some of the tales about Steve being a master salesman his whole life. And the podcast is chock-full of things like that.I've binged like 8 episodes already today (and might listen to them all before the weekend is over). If you've got a road trip in the near future or just want some juicy stories about successful people to binge, I HIGHLY recommend you check it out.You can learn a lot about storytelling, the true routines of successful people and the sacrifices people make in the name of greatness. It's a 5-star listen for me and I would LOVE to nerd out with anyone who dives into a few episodes and wants to discuss anything.

Awesome Catherine!
Listen to the excitement in your blog.!
I don't have a favourite podcast, but after reading your blog, I do think I need to get one now ;)
Ted Talk is my favorite podcast. I love the science part of it. better than others. It deals with varieties of highly interesting topics, many of them are unique, novel inventions and valuable to human life.
People can't sleep well next to cellphone towers. The plant really communicate. These are the examples of two things I loved in Ted talk.
