What happens with a WA purchased domain and files of the website if a member can not afford the WA monthly premium membership?

Will they lose all their content. I know they will lose membership and hosting but, what about the content on the website and the domain that was purchased?

Will that still be available to them since they did purchase the domain?

I am trying to help someones referral out so, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey. I just thought of something. What your friend may be able to do is have support copy/transfer her live site over to a site rubix free site. This will mean that her site will still be live on WA and using a free site instead. This means that her site will no longer be www.mysite.com but will instead be www.mysite.siterubix.com. That may be a good alternative for her. Alanna

The files and database will be deleted from the server after 30 days. So they have time to do a complete backup. It's important to backup the database as well as all the files and folders.

They will have full use of and access to the domain name for as long as they keep it registered.

Great question and answers. Got to love wa community sites should always be backed up. I have copies of my pages and posts I'm word also.
If membership can't be paid sites are backed up on wa too and can be restored in most cases but it is still best to back them up.

Also there is a youtube video tutorial by Ferdy Korpershoek using the Sydney theme. In that video he teaches you how to setup a full website on your computer free using your theme of choice. The site won't be published onto the web but you can work on the site, make changes and get it just like you want it while waiting until you can afford to publish it.

Best they back up the whole site using FPT on their own computer, then they can restore it later

see patsy has a post on it today, and something by surfsidebob, a plugin to replace wpclone, which would have been our choice but hasn't been updated it seems in a year

someone here has mentioned ftp too, bit of a learning curve for peeps though

also keep doing tools export, but just know it won't keep everything and you need more, however WA is doing backups every day anyway so we only lose one day's work [that can be a lot though]

You can also export from the tools on the dashboard and save all your work to a disk or a (I call it) a finger. Then when you can afford it again, and come back you have everything as it was before.

If the person can't afford hosting they can hang onto the files until they find hosting they can afford then upload the site files at that time. In the meantime the domain name will still be live.

The content continues because it's through the WordPress platform....it's the hosting part.....they can export the content too.

Oh great! Thank you for the help. I was thinking that the content did not go anywhere but, I was not sure and didn't want to give out the wrong information.

So, they just lose hosting. Thanks for the help...

Yea...just make sure to tell them to export their content anytime they update their site

I was wondering the same thing for myself. Haven't found a definite answer, but some are saying that you have 30 days to transfer your domain to a new host service. Again, I don't know if this is true or not.

I know what you mean I have seen this questioned answered many times, and it is never fully explained.

Now, I am trying to help figure it out.

I understand that the domain will be kept because, that is what was purchased but, it is the files part that I do not fully understand.

Of course, another hosting company is an option but, I do not think that is even an option in this case.

So, I would think the files could be backed up and downloaded to a drive but, I am not fully sure just yet.

Hopefully, someone will respond with more details

They can use a plugin to do a full backup of their wordpress itself. Then, if they move to another domain, or come back, they can just import the data back into wordpress. I use a plugin called xcloner for my backups

You will always have access to any domains you have purchased and you will have 30 days to move your site to another hosting company

Oh so, it sounds like to me that you have access to the domain for the time frame it was registered and the files are a lost within 30 days if they are not moved.

I am not sure of the entire situation but, I am sure if they can not afford WA membership, another hosting company is out of the question.

Can the files at least be downloaded or backed up to their computer or drive, without losing anything?

At least, until they return to WA

Yes of course they should always backup the site and download it to their computer as security

Thank you, for your response!

Do you know what happens if they can not afford to move the site to another hosting?

Wouldn't they still have access to the domain and files? it just wouldn't be hosted, correct?

Or are they losing the files completely within 30 days?
