I recently just completed my level 5 training, and as part of that i recently just set up my webmaster tools account.

Upon submitting my sitemap and doing the site scan, the result said a had a couple of warnings/ errors which includes titles being too long and absence of alt txt.

In the bid of trying to resolve them, watching the alt txt trainings etc, I seem to have caused more issues as the errors are now way more than they were before

I think i might have done the alt txt thing incorrectly, also for the long titles, some of these posts have already being indexed, i believe we are encouraged not to change urls right so how do i go about these

You can edit ALL except changing the URL if the URL changes to Google it would be a new post, any ranking that has been done would be lost.

So are you saying when you edited your images in media library and added the alt text you get errors?

After adding the alt txt and re running the site scan vi webmaster I get errors.

To be clear in the Alt to field, do we just add the text in there, or we need to be this commas “ “ ?

Also are the caption, title equally important?

Captions are used if you want your images to appear on your posts with a title under them.- the title is the category data field entered for mage in media library.

Where are you entering your alt text in the media library when editing each image or are you editing in a live post. if in a live post you put the text between the " ".

My apologies for the delay, i typed the response to you and forgot to press send, coupled with a busy few days.

Please find screenshots of how i entered the alt txt as well as what it looks like when i go to the code editor .

Also, are we meant to alt txt the featured images?

I do not understand why webmaster tools is saying your alt is missing. The code your provide (mage 3 shows that it is there.

Thanks, I’d try to figure it out .

Is it possible to change the title of my post without changing the URL?

Yes you can change the title. (but like you said the URL must not change. )

I noticed your errors for alt missing in images is a "warning" not an error. so if you can't figure it out. don't spend too much time on it.

Thanks a lot for the help. So to be clear, anything other than an error such as warnings or notices are fine and won’t stop my post from being indexed? I should be more particular about the errors only? Is that correct

Yes.

If you keep getting the same warnings over and over it may be worth looking into to see if something can be figured out, but keep moving ahead now.
