Hi Kyle,

On Friday July 27 you've sent me a warning message telling me that I must avoid any kind of promotion.

And of course, I want to follow the rules, but I'm a bit confused ... As far as I know, I haven't promoted any products or services ...

What I did: I've inserted external links (in my comments) pointing to free tutorials or articles. Tutorials strictly related to certain questions that were raised by WA members ... But, of course, those tutorials, articles, posts, etc may (and usually will) contain affiliate links too ...

What I've found on this topic is this article:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/tips-for-using-link...

... where the final conclusion of the author (Henry) is this: "be careful with the external links you share" ... which in my perception is far from being a clearly defined rule.

But, the 9th point of this policy:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/wealthy-affiliate-t...

... is very clear: Do not post content where your readers are required to go to an external website to "read more". All of the content must be self contained within the post itself.

And here's the thing ... Certain questions cannot be answered in a few words, and very often the best way to do that is by inserting links that are pointing to relevant and helpful external posts and articles ... which articles might contain affiliate links too ...

So, my question: can we insert helpful external links in our comments (and blog posts) or not?

Thanks in advance!

Zed

Hi. I have M.S. and to be short. If there is a lot of talk and little information, I will not understand. I need to be walked to my first dollar and generating more money. Can you do that?

The training here is very thorough, very straightforward, and leans heavily on substance as opposed to fluff. It's tailor made for those like you who are just starting out. It will take work, drive, and focus just as any business building venture would, but the training absolutely delivers when you stick with it. Remove all the excuses and reasons you feel you can't do something and dive in and work! You're in the right place! :)

Hi - I am not sure how your question has ended up in this discussion. Please be aware that this is not a get rich quick scheme. You have to follow the training and learn how to build a website. You will be expected to write a lot of articles on a subject that interests you. It is unlikely you would make any money in the first six months. All the best, Diane

All right, Just substance. Not like the first video

I don't remember any videos lacking substance to be honest. Every lesson is a key one and the tasks you're given allow you to apply what you've learned. The foundational elements of building your website are just as important as the ones focused on revenue. You can't have one without the other :)

I was reffing to the video that over and over tells how much someone made money.

I haven't seen any videos that are part of WA's training that do that. Which lesson?

it was the ad for you

I think there's a misunderstanding here, lol. You understand that WA is made up of millions of members right? I'm a member just like you. Some members may decide to make their own videos promoting this platform and put them on YouTube. That doesn't make it a WA training video. The training videos I'm referencing in our discussion here are the ones you'll find under the Training tab to the left. Those will show you step by step how to build a successful affiliate marketing business that is scalable and lasts. If that's what you're looking for, then you're in the right place. It takes work, but the training here sets you up for success. Best of luck!

Hi - Eric has been trying to help you but I am not sure you understand. The point of this platform is to show you how to build a website and write articles to put on it, which should make money in the long term . It is not easy. Do you think you can follow the training lessons and write lots of long articles?

you may have very valuable content on your sit, but the idea of this platform is that is fairly self contained.
so external links to your own site would cause eyebrows to be lifted.
for me it is getting backlinks from a high authority site - even if there are no affiliate links - you are helping yoursellf to links.
ther is no problem with you doing what you have started doing - addin training here - as long as it is self contained and not read more at my site.
as your name states you are a smart marketeer, but there is a fine line which crossed in any platform will cause you to be suspended.
it would be a shame to lose a person with the energy, passion and information like yourself.
i hope you continue to add value to this platform

If the post is obviously from an 'authority site' - like Google, it is OK. But if it is not obvious to readers that the site might be your site, then don't do it. Members here often click the 'report spam' button any time they see an external link, especially if it looks like an affiliate link.

I do use external links when answering questions, but only well-known, authority sites like Wordpress or Google.

Thanks Mel,

Usually those links were pointing to my own tutorials and I clearly specified that. And sometimes to other "authority sites" like WPBeginner for example ...

And no, in my opinion a Wordpress slug (a very descriptive post title) doesn't looks like an affiliate link ...

Anyway, THANKS for your feedback!

Regards,
Zed

Because we are paid to create training here - some people feel that linking to our training is self-promotional, so that could be it as well. I don't feel that way myself, but others do.

In my opinion that's a quite weird POV ... So I was working for let's say 2 weeks to create a value-packed free tutorial containing thousands of words, free resources, etc and I can't share it in order to help somebody just because it isn't hosted by WA ...

Thanks again Mel!

If it's not hosted here at WA, then you definitely can't share it, that's considered self-promotion. I thought you were referring to the tutorials that we create on-platform.

No Mel, we were talking about external links from the very beginning ...

Still ... In my stubborn brain the very essence of anything related to spam is about

"(repetead) unsolicited (commercial) messages"

and sharing a free article to help out somebody after he/she raised a question, ... well it's a completely different thing.

Anyway, thanks again for your opinion and your time!

have a nice day!

Unfortunately, that is not this site's definition of spam. I've only been trying to present this community's view.

I often share links to further information in my comments and within the blogs I publish within WA.

I have yet to receive any message from K & C telling me I cannot do this and I have been doing it for four years.

However there have been and still are members that insert links to blogs/articles that have their affiliate links in them and this is a big NO NO.

Good Morning,
The best way to share helpful links on WA is via PM.
Unless specified in a lesson, posting external links in a forum will be considered spam.
I hope this helps.
