Why I will Listen to You---The Rest of The Story
When I was seven I almost died. I was playing at the backyard of my house in South Africa, and then I heard my grandfather tell me to stand still. Now, I had always listened to that wise man. I stood still for what seemed forever, but I learned later that it was only for a few minutes.
In any case, I waited for his permission to move. When I turned around, I saw my grandfather holding a shovel and on it was the severed head of a snake.
My shock was overwhelmed by my gratitude.
Thus, It won’t surprise you to know that I spent a good deal of my life learning not only why people listen but how they listen. After all, I’m alive today because of those two factors.
So, here is what I promise you. If you are in pain and need relief I’ll listen to you.
Have you become afraid to sleep because of the nightmares?
When you hurt so much that while you sleep you dream of being tortured and there’s nothing you can do but endure the pain. Are you scared to sleep and you feel there’s nothing you can do about it?
Do you have anxiety and feel that the stress around you is like gas on open flame. But no one is listening…it would have been fine if not for yesterday. Yesterday when the anxiety turned into depression and now the depression is bringing sadness so deep you feel you’ll never be happy again.
You feel that no one can help you.
Well, I refuse to believe that my grandfather saved my life so many years ago just so I could stand by while people are in pain. I know how to listen. I know I can help you. Hey Thabo, thank you for this! You're right, so many are fighting what i call "invisible wars". i don't know if that is an actual term
or not but it seem to be appropriate for what so many people are going through. And there aren't too many people that are willing to listen. I'd like to think I'm a good listener and same goes for me, if anyone just want to vent please reach out to me. That's why we are here for, and i don't just mean WA, I mean life.

They say" invisible scars" but your term is actually on target because a lot of people who suffer from chronic pain feel that they are in a battle to live a life of dignity because of so much misunderstanding and misconceptions about chronic pain and illness. Thanks for sharing.
