Is Your Content too Big of a Bite?

This post is deliberately short.

Here is the thing: Most of us at WA will take the time to read and enjoy your long master piece of a post. I'm not being funny. We will take the time to read it and give you a thoughtful comment.

unfortunatley a lot of people read content not at the comfort of a desk but on their way to the airport, during a taxie or bus ride, and on the trip to the bathroom---etc.

And when they do this they are usually looking for solutions that will just take the room of a postcard or cellphone screen. In other words, they are looking for very short bites of content. This doesn't mean give them a short post of fluff or a long post of fluff for that matter. It just means that you need to make sure that your message can be delivered in small bites. Mix it up a little. Go ahead and write those long posts that get rankig, but just be sure that you do it in such a way that even people rushing to the airport will understand your points.

Then---it's up to you.

Great post Thabo!
I'll think of this when writing my blogs.
:-)

Thanks, Pernilla.

Agreed

Thanks, ShakidaD.

Interesting point!
Mixing it up, is a must if you are going to be diligent, about working on the websites. long posts, take time.
However, here at WA, practice at writing long, is a discipline, which I've learned, by practicing on my posts.
Length, makes me organize my thoughts, for clarity...follow a thought stream, and come to a conclusion. I plan, a long one with research, as well...more time, needed, yet.
We all find what works, best, for our styles.

Hi Brichnow,
I have and do write long posts at times supported by a good deal of research. I'm just making the point that we need to understand the expectations that someone is suppose to have when reading our content. What are they suppose to do with it? The easier we make it for them to answer the question the more they'll see value in our content and want to keep reading.

I got that!
Writing with a purpose...sometimes, less is more.
I tend to pick blogs that are short, when I'm, on the run, as well.
We can never read everyone's blogs... Not possible! Lol

I think the important thing is that one give gives themselves the opportunity to be exposed , like we are doing, to what's out there in terms of ideas or different takes on what one is thinking.

That's why this forum is such a great idea. We may not have the time to read everyone's post, but at least we have a place to ask questions and learn new things.

I appreciate the conversation we are having. I enjoyed reading your responses.

Good point. Now, if you could just convince Google of that....

Hi Bryan,
I don't think there is any arguing that Google rewards long content.
And we all want to get good ranking. However, there still remains the question of who is reading our content.

If most of the people reading it are accustomed to "small markets'' thanks to such things as the cellphone, then it means we need to make sure that the long content is digestible in small bites. This means learning to tell stories with images and small paragraphs---and so on.

Oh, I agree with you 100%, I just wish the search engines also realized that not every post needs to be the start of a novel!
