Hi to all, my name is Peter and I have looked at affiliate marketing before but never had the time to investigate it quite so thoroughly.

I think I may be missing a step here. When I write something in site content and I haven't finished the post as is often the case, I open the post in the dashboard to find that

Glad to hear you got this one

Hi Marion and thanks for your response. After posting the question, I got to thinking that because site manager saves the content and after going back to it after closing it down the content remains, that it doesnt show up in the dashbiard post because it hadnt been published.
This is clearly my sticking point. I see the word publish and thought no I dont want this up on my site yet it isnt finished.
So it doesn't actually publish it to the site merely to the posts area in the dashboard. Hmmm perhaps I should have read more about site content usage brfore proceeding. A little ambiguous methinks.

You have a choice. Either finish the post in Site Content before you publish it or publish it and finish writing it in WordPress :)

Why is site content scribblings not showing up in post?

I've been reading up a bit on SEO plugins and apparently while the all in one SEO we have installed is by far the most used there is an alternative of equal if not better funct

Personally, I prefer all in one.

It is true that the content analysis on yoast can be helpful as a reminder for beginners, but it can also be a bit stressful with the red and green symbols, and sometimes people end up focusing too much on these colors instead of just thinking logically as well.

But as Steve says, a lot of it comes down to personal preferences. I think all in one has better options and is more pleasant to use, but you can always just try to install yoast on a free siterubix test site and test it for yourself to see which one you like the best.

All the best,
Mikael

Food for thought..... No stop leading me to temptation sir!

I've never used Yoast and I've never had a problem ranking posts. It's a matter of personal preference.

Fair enough, i was merely interested in the content analysis option and thought that might be more helpful for beginners. As far as I understand it, it is a kind of keyword search tool that scans the post for such data. Ok we use Jaxxy and maybe a few other methods to collate the keyword harvest and sure it works.
I kinda also see this as a final way of optimising each post too.

People tend to overthink SEO so they like all of the indicators that Yoast provides. In the end, only Google decides what will rank and where it will rank.

So very true Steve, but the thing that bugs me is I would obviously like to get a clearer understanding of what works and what doesn't. I've always tended to dig deeply into any software and tweak here and there. This is what I do to really test the limits of software and quite often break it but maybe that's why I've done beta and alpha testing for years because I'm a tinkerer.
Appreciate your insight Thank you.

If you want more features you can tinker with, Yoast may be what you want.

Yeah lol! but then this distracts me from what I really need to be focusing on, which is writing content so I'm trying really hard to avoid such temptation. Maybe later down the road when I have things more established.
cheers

After adding a number of links internal and external to a post, the internal ones work fine but the external links which are from one of the companies I partnered with open a b

Just an update - The links now work as they should.
I'm not certain why though. I decided to revive an earlier revision of my draft post and create the links exactly as I did earlier and all is well.
This merely suggests there may have been an issue with the draft I was working with. I did create the potentially problematic draft in Site content and when I looked at the post within the dash board area I noticed the last section (bullet points) was missing, so i recreated them and saved the draft.
It was after this I embedded the links into the post and had the problems.
All is well that ends well.

You may try to add it in text format and then update it and go back to visual see if it works.

It was late last night when faced with this issue. In the light ofvthis morning ill take another look. Remember I stated copied directly from a text document and pasted into browser to ensure link worked first which it does. When using the same text from the clipboard and selecting the text in my post that will serve as the link gateway I create the necessary link via the link button and paste accordingly.
You know how long these links can be so one has to be careful to ensure everything is selected before copying. Writing it out manually would be of no benefit. Ive written web sites numerous times using proper authoring software and never experienced this annoyance. I shall apply a little more payience when I revisit this later. Once a solution is discovered I'll share with the community.

HI Howzat and thanks for responding.
I have the affiliate links in a text document.
I copy the one I want to use and open up the draft post in site manager.
I then locate and highlight the piece of text I want to use for the source of the link and click on the link icon.
This throws up an entry box where i paste the copied text.
I then click on the little gear wheel icon to ensure the pasted link is set correctly in the URL box and click on update.
Save the draft and preview the post.
Clicking on the newly created link gives me the result I explained in my question which is weird.
While I am not as familiar with word press as standalone web design software I find it odd that I'm having a problem with this.

How are you creating the link in your post ?
