Mind Mapping for organization

There are some here who use mind mapping to help with ideas and organization. FreeMind is a free mind mapping tool that is easy to use and might help some others here too. I only have a few minutes to write this as I have to get ready for work.

When I downloaded my copy I went back to the site to read the manual. It was interactive and had you follow along with the tutorial on your own copy. This helps you to understand the basics so that you can use it for your own purposes. I highly recommend this.

The tutorial was using the subject: Write An Article. This was quite handy as I was able to adapt it for my own uses afterward. Now I have a mind map started with many branches to help me stay on track with my studies here on WA.

One of the problems I have had in marketing is distractions. I have a busy life and when away from the computer for a while I sometimes have difficulty picking back up where I left off. My former ideas are half forgotten. I have to go back to Jaaxy (my preferred tool) to recheck the keywords for my subject. Then move on to articles.

Using a mindmap is better for me than using a pad and paper. I have too many notes that are not organized. It is easy to organize mind maps into folders. When a task is completed I simply place a green check next to it (easily done).

When I have a new idea that is not related to what I am actually working on it is easy to place it into a new mind map, place it into a folder for future research and get back to what I am supposed to be doing.

I hope that this may help someone else who has distraction problems like I do.

This is good stuff. I have been looking at Mind Mapping but have yet to really work with it. This is good testimony!

Thank you for sharing this Teacup. I've had a hard time organizing several things in life for the past 11 months. Much appreciated.

Mind mapping is a great tool I've only just recently been introduced to it. Thanks for the post!

Your welcome. I am fairly new to actually using one myself but it is very helpful now that I am.

Thank you for the great information. Thank you very much.

Your welcome. Hope that it helps

Thanks for sharing this!

Your welcome, thanks for commenting

Thanks for sharing. I was thinking about looking for an organizational tool. I write notes everywhere. On every piece of paper. Then I lose some of them. It gets frustrating. I think I will take a look into this! Thanks!

Hi - you could also use something like https://trello.com/ for capturing notes (or to do lists) - but I do prefer mindmaps for brainstorming...

your welcome. I certainly know what it is to have notes and then lose them.

I also have my own mind map formula too!

I find it very helpful. Thanks for commenting.

Hi - I love mindmaps - I use them for every meeting in the 9-5, for attendance, notes, actions etc. I used Freemind too - it's good - but I now use XMind (free version) - for me, the themes are nicer, and more colourful. But the underlying product is the same.

All the best, Mark

have not tried the XMind. Will take a look at it but the Freemind is good for my needs.

I have seen the trello before but the mind map helps me to get the ideas into the right step

That's the thing - everyone has their preferred tools. None are better than the others, as we all have different ways of working and different preferences. But the fact you've posted this is great - as it has prompted discussion, that has brought up a few more tools that could be used by other members here.

I love these posts. You find out so many good things about how other people work, and the tools they always knew about, but you NEVER knew about!!

Great discussion,

All the best, Mark

I have never heard of mind mapping in this regards so apparently I am out of the loop that you and BIS are in! Thanks very much for sharing this tool I will be sure to look into it.

it is an excellent planning tool. It gives you a visual of the steps that you need to take to get a project done. Then you can revise, delete, or simply check them off as your plan progresses.

Your welcome. Bis is the expert though. I am just sharing something I found useful.

I mind map a lot but not recently for organisation. Thanks for the reminder.

Your welcome. But you are more of a natural when it comes to organization.
