I've been thinking about my next blog for my website. I oftentimes find myself doing this. I get an idea, and the blog starts writing itself in my head.
So when I'm ready to start the actual writing, it goes pretty fast.
I have to walk to the supermarket (my car is broken). I've done this so many times that I could almost do it blindfolded.
So my body goes into a kind of autopilot mode and my brain starts churning. When I'm thinking about things I want to write about, something interesting sometimes happens.
I start remembering things that I haven't thought about in years (and by years, I mean decades). My brain sometimes comes up with interesting associations, which are quite fun to write about. And hopefully are fun to read.
I try to come up with things that I would enjoy reading myself if some other writer had put it down. I do write what I call "articles". These are things that shouldn't roll away like a blog roll would, but instead contain information that should always be available to the visitor, things like how to sharpen a knife and a glossary of knife related terminology. I have a few of these written, but there obviously is room for lots more articles.
This isn't good for sleeping though. Sometimes my brain won't turn off. It is very difficult to sleep when this is going on.
I've tried getting up and writing what's going on in my head.
This doesn't work. My brain just changes gear and starts thinking about something else.
Well, I know I'll get to sleep eventually.
I used to wake up with some new great idea which I would write down, then go back to bed. This hasn't happened in quite a while. I suspect it has something to do with the medication I have to take. I've asked many doctors about this, but none of them had a clue as to what's causing this.
The brain is full of lots of uncharted territory.
I used to meditate, but that doesn't work anymore either. Again, I suspect the medication.
But I persevere.
Do you have any stories about your own writing experiences? I'd love to hear about them.
