I've been hunting for someone that has posted with this problem, but not finding anything. I must be doing something wrong lol. I have a couple new posts on my site that I can'

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Robert-A - these are the steps I'm following exactly, but the links still don't open in a new tab. When I go back to edit the link, the little checkbox is unchecked again.

I installed the Classic Editor Plugin and it works now! I wonder if the block version has issues with mac or safari? Regardless - it's working again - thank you!

I only use the Classic Editor.

If it's a glitch you can always come back to it later. There's a debate as to which is better... open in the same tab or new tab. I prefer to open in a new tab but some SEO's recommend not to use that option... although I can't remember why. I think it's quicker and uses fewer resources.

Are you using the Gutenberg block editor? I've seen this issue. Install the Classic Editor plugin and try again.

Thank you - this was it. It's weird because it was working fine last week. Same mac, same browser - Safari. It was doing some other weird things too - like weird results when I copy/paste.

I'm glad it's working for you now.

I have a question for you. When in Live Chat, do your apostrophes sometimes come out in odd characters?

I always do it this way and have never had any problems.

First you highlight a relevant piece of text.
Then you click on the Paperclip icon in your little menu.
A box appears directly underneath the highlighted text.
You insert your link.

Then you click on the little Cog Wheel to the right of the box.

Next small screen.

make sure the little box to open in new tab is ticked.

Click add/insert

Your highlighted text will have changed to blue.
Save/Update and click on Preview.
Test your link and if it takes you to where its supposed to then job done.

Hope this helps.

Hey Tamara,

Here is a tutorial to help you: All I can suggest is that you literally follow the tutorial step by step to see what it might have been that you missed doing previously. That's the only way you will be able to figure out what went wrong.

Hope you find this helpful.
