FOCUS ON THE DO’S

There is a common fault in humanity that if you focus on what you cannot do you will inevitably want to do what you cannot do.

As a child we heard our parents say something like don’t eat the cookies or don’t give me that look. And you know what, the first thing we do we focus on what we cannot do and it drives us to do it anyway.

When you begin school you will eventuallyhear a lot about don’ts – don’t do this in school or don’t use that method to do something. And at some point your mind will drive you to find a way to push back sneaking to do what you are not supposed to be doing.

Some religious organizations are well known for having alist of what you are not supposed to be doing. If you are a part of that organization your mind will stick on that list of don’ts and it will often drive a wedge in your heart that makes you want to give up on that organization because you do what they say don’t.

Here is the thing – I fully realize that building an online business you will have to work at it. If you don’t put in the time you will never go far.

Now you know what my greatest struggle is– putting in the time to make this work. Every week I go through the same process. I know I have to put time in BUT those “don’ts” appear so attractive. Don’t watch TV becomes “oh I can do something tomorrow and I deserve a break”.

Each day of the week there is some time available, yet when I focus on what I shouldn’t do, you know what I end up doing – I put off the important stuff, and do what I am not supposed to be doing.

So I resolved to create a do list tofocus on each week. This is just a simple list of some things I can do that will help me progress towards my business goals. These are little tasks that give me something to do even if I have a little time to spend.

  1. Read someone’s blog, see what you can learn and make a comment.
  2. Work toward completing at least one step in your training process.
  3. Read your emails and answer those that you are able.
  4. Check out sites of those you are following. See if there are any ideas you can use and write yourself a note.
  5. Work on writing a new post. If you are not sure where to go next in your writing do some research on something you are interested in.

This is by no means and exhaustive list but I believe by getting in the habit of doing small steps each day you will grow more motivated and progress farther along.

Loved reading!

While I may not have much time to be on here every day, I do my best to get on here and take those small steps, interact, and see what's happening in this great community. Seems like there are always members celebrating accomplishments. So I like to take time to congratulate them. There are many things we can do to support one another. If I need a break from writing a blog or working on my site, I can always find a member to encourage or to help.

It's the small steps you mentioned that lead to our success. Thanks for the post! :)

That is what I am learning Colleen, the small steps do count.
