In order to make this a "fun" business, I wanted to pick something that interests me, but I'm wondering if I can create valuable content for a topic that is an interest but I do
That is the best opportunity you can have as you will know from personal experience. Once you get good at your own niche, you will develop a "feel for" How to do Niche Marketing and back it up with Affiliate Marketing... The taste of success is difficult to lose!
You should definitely know a lot about your niche or be prepared to do a lot of extra extra extra research. Looking below, your content must make sense and be unique; so yes, constant research or promote Wealthy Affiliate until you find your niche.
Its always good to use a passion or interest as your choice of a niche. It will definitely be more fun and your growing or already established expertise will shine through. You will begin to know more than most about your interest as you research and gain in knowledge. There is
always someone out there who will know less than you about your topic and enjoy what you have to share. Looking forward to seeing what you choose as a niche. Go for it and enjoy. :)
That makes a lot of sense. So, either way I should be doing continuing research and that is what generates content.
Yes, you can. Many people have done so, including myself. I chose baseball memorabilia, something I've always been interested in but really knew little about.
One other question to ask is: Are others interested in the niche I choose? I came to realize, after a while, that baseball memorabilia is declining in interest, at least from a "search" standpoint. This has meant that my traffic levels are lower than some other niches.
I've developed a nice site, however, with good content that is ranking well, so I will continue to build it while I start another, more popular niche.
You stepped out on faith and you were rewarded. I began looking up the programs that would support my top 2 ideas and I realized that even though it was an interest I really had no valuable input for one of them...and I was actively researching the other. so I guess I have picked my niche!!!

When choosing a niche is it better to pick something you already know about?
