Learning To Better My Skills

Hello one and all here at WA. Hope everyone is being productive.

I have to admit that I have not been.

I was forced to take a break due to health issues(long story) But I am now more than determined to get back on track.

I finally wrote and published an article to one of my websites(1st one in 2 months).

I have difficulty with images. You see I take a lot of my own(and not very good at doing). I usually cannot find an image related to my article so I find it necessary to take my own.

For example: I wrote an article about "liquidy" or "runny" apple pie. So I needed an image to show this. All I could find was an image of a perfect slice of apple pie.

Well I took the photo and the darn thing was blurry and overall just a bad photo.

So I posted a question to the community regarding photo apps to fix this.

I got some interesting responses (and found out you just can't fix a photo that is bad to begin with) and now thanks to Phil @feigner I am now determined to learn how to improve my photo taking skills.

He shared a link regarding food photography.

I signed up for the 5 day free course on the subject. I have ordered 1 book and downloaded an e-book.

Now is this considered following a "shiny object"?

I don't think so. I consider this education and learning how to make my website more appealing and maybe improve my traffic.

After all who wants to land on a website with awful images? Of course the content has to be good but the images to go with that great content must be appealing as well, not an eyesore.

In order to improve your business you have to learn new things right?

So now I am off to watch some videos and then get some keyword research done as well.

I hope you all have a great day!

Tai

Finding just the right photo for your post, that is safe to use, is a challenge for me. I spend more time doing that than writing the post.

Hi Roger,
I hear ya. That's why I take my own. So since I take crappy pictures I decided that I needed to improve my skills in this area.

Whats your best source for pictures you can't take yourself?

I use Canva. I have the pro version which is so worth it
Also the image library here in WA

Canva seems to be a source for many at WA. I will take a look. Thanks!

You're welcome

You are doing what you need to do to improve your website. This will also affect other areas of your life as well. Great job and keep moving forward.
Jerry

Thank You Jerry

Glad to see you keeping at it, Tai! Welcome back!

Jeff

Thank you Jeff

You're very welcome, Tai!

Keep at it, Taianne. :)

I have watched videos all morning that my eyes are crossed:)

I understand that feeling. :)

I love photography, got some great photos this ice rink season while in San Francisco, across the street is Macys and on the top floor is the Cheesecake factory. There they have an open-air balcony that allows me to get some great shots of my ice rink, and all of Union Square. On the floor directly below that is bedroom furniture right in front of the window. That was a wonderful photo, I sent one via text to my boss thanking him for the hotel room upgrade, he caught on right away, and one to the manager here at the hotel I am staying at saying I loved the service and my room here. Oh, fun stuff.

This year I am taking my hobby up a notch, spent a few coins on some classes, and looking forward to diving into those. And starting a few YouTube channels, which are still in the paper and pen stage, and some practice videos using different technics of capturing audio, I get to learn how to edit that stuff and get the timing right. Gonna be fun.

Have fun with your classes, ya getting blurry shots sucks, and getting nighttime photos with low light is a challenge and I am in the process of overcoming those challenges. Wishing the best of times learning new things and I hope you come to love the challenge and results.

The Zam man.

Hey Scott,
I have seen some of the photos that you posted and they were awesome

I feel your pain. I hated taking pictures for Amazon, Ebay and Poshmark. They could have nicknamed me the blurry photographer. I even bought an expensive camera to try making them better.

Best of luck in figuring it out, and maybe you can share some training with the rest of us if you get it down to a science. :)

Regards,

Jason

Than you Jason
I have worked on this all morning that I feel a headache coming on:)

One thing you might try is using your phone ot take a video, then a snapshot of the video. I noticed my videos aren't typically blurry, so the snapshot won't be either.

I definitely feel you on the headache. I bought a good dslr camera, photography lights and a backdrop to smooth the light and still spent so much time trying to get good photos, hah hah.

No, it is not a shiny object because it would help produce better imagery for your business. And thanks for the resource.

Exactly as you say. Have fun, and thanks for sharing. Excellent blog post, by the way!

Thank you Abie
