If my categories are pages in my Menu, what do I put in the sidebar Categories section?

It took me a while to figure out the riddle of categories, posts and pages, and I think I may do a tutorial on this because it appears that a lot of people are having challenges with this.

The best way to do it I found out is if you follow this format;

PAGES ARE STATIC - this means that the information you put in your pages should be the same information that does not change, such as your "about me" and "privacy policy page" Your Menus can consist of pages and posts at the top of your website, but the difference would be that you can add content to posts because as you add posts your site puts the most recent ones at the top for viewing so that your freshest content is always on the top for viewing

POSTS ARE FOR CONTENT - as you add content to your website they should be in the form of "posts" not pages because pages are not designed for you to constantly add content, but "posts" do.

Now to categories, by creating categories you are creating a system for your content to line up under specific posts. For instance, my niche is marriage help, so I created a menu for counselling by adding "counselling as a category, then adding that as a menu bar at the top of my site. Because I put "counselling" as a menu bar, I also created "counselling" in my general categories, along with other categories such as "social issues" "personal development" and "marriage help"

Now every time I create a posts and tick "counselling" as a category, that post automatically falls under the "counselling" menu bar at the top of the website, so anyone clicking on the "counselling" menu bar would be able to view every single post I created and ticked counselling as a post category.

This is the same for every other category I created and placed as a menu bar topic. Word press allows you to create categories as menu bars and when you create posts and tick the relevant category, the posts fall under that specific menu bar.

I hope this clarifies more than confuses, and if it does, I think I had better get to work on that tutorial!

I really don't understand categories. I know there is a tab for categories when you click on your post page it list several items that need to be filled in. If I find out anything I will let you know.

Depending on your Theme, the Titles can be the same. So I can either use the top or the right side.

Thanks for the insight. I was a bit confused there. lol Best of luck to ya. Hope I can repay the favor someday.

Trying to gauge the possibilities. I need to get to where I can pay my rent from this.

a few pennies more than that, been here a little over 2 months. Wealthy Affiliate Rocks!

awesome story

Aloha Tadnlrma, Mahalo (thanks in Hawaiian) for the follow!! Good luck in your quest for success--just keep on keeping on!!

Hey there,
Thanks for the encouragement, I totally intend to do that! Best of luck to ya!

That answer is only possible by your efforts. How much time are YOU willing to invest in yourself. While some members are more "comfortable" with computers, others struggle to just understand how to turn their computers on, let alone be a money making machine. It may well turn out to be a longer road for you, as I don't know what sort of a computer background you have. None the less if you commit to spending time and energy every day. Meaning try to learn and follow. Your learning curve will be cut dramatically. Others are doing it, and you can do too. You are at the right place at the right time.

Thanks for the input fseth.
I understand what you're saying. I realize nobody can give a pat answer, just wanted to see how long it took the ones who have reached that mark to get there. I know they will vary, but you can get a feel for things with enough information. thanks again buddy, best of luck to ya.

Thank you. I extend my best wishes to you also in your endeavors here at WA. I know you can succeed. I look forward to seeing it here on WA.

I think it would all depend on the individual and how much time, effort and dedication they put in - But anything is possible ! I've been here 1 and getting referrals already , so all depends on You I guess !

Thanks SStar, I appreciate your answer. So glad that you're already getting referrals, that's the kind of insight I was looking for. I'm pumped.lol Thanks a lot, and all the best. Keep on truckin'!

We do... but not from WA. We have lots of stuff going and 21 employees to help do it. We make about $250 a month from WA, well from WordPress. We probably could do more but we would need more staff.
I started back in 2010. I was a free member in another program for 18 months learning SEO, WordPress and the Basics.. At that time I bought the next step... that took us quickly from 1800 to 5000. BUT it takes a LOT to maintain that. Jay got sick and I got transferred to Orlando. Our Other partner is in Naval Intelligence and went off on the GW Bush Aircraft Carrier. Our Administrator kept our income high enough to meet payroll. Now payroll is 3 times as large... BUT we are IT professionals. We are not here for financial need. Our goal is to work much less as we are getting older

Thanks for answering. Glad for any insights I can get. My first main goal is to reach the $1000 a month so I can rent my own apartment. I'm staying with an old Navy buddy who is helping me out for now. Anyway, thanks for the input and much success to you.

Wish I could give you a time frame, but everyone's situation is different.

Now with that said on average from what I have seen in the WA 6 months to a year seems to be the norm for generating income.

And of course that varies in amounts from person to person.

But I can tell you yes it's very possible and yes you can build a business that can pay your rent and then some. But this is not a get rich quick overnight thing. It takes time.

Hey leoemery,
Thanks for that input. I know it is different from one person to the next, but wanted to see how long it has taken other people to reach the $1000 a month mark. That way at least I can gauge it a little according to my abilities. Thanks again my friend, and my best to your success.

Yeah I get that, times are different now since I started back in 2000 - I met my mentor in 2003 and two months after that I made my first commission of $319.11.

Then 2 months after that I was over $1000 per month and the 18 months from my first commission I was making a fulltime income. And I have been earning a fulltime income as of 2005.

And my income has grown every year since then - hope that helps a little.

I am sure there are alot of people here with that or they wouldn't be willing to pay the $40 something a month ---over and over---but it also depends on the experience of the person---how fast they learn and what they put into it ......hope to hear from some people with Great Wisdom on here......

Hey there Shefa,
I know that what you say is true. I'm sure people are making that much, just wanted a few insights into how long it took them to get there. And you're right about the wealth of knowledge on here. I've on only been Premium a few days and I can see what a great community we have on here. I am truly grateful. Thanks Shefa, I wish you all the best.

Blessings Upon your Business too
