I thought I would just encourage some of you by reporting that sale number 8 came in three days ago. This time it was not the big sales, only a sale of $15, but a sale is a sale :)

Ethical Question Regarding Sales?

I probably already know the answer to this question but would like to test it here anyways.

The client paid $15 for an alphabet letter style that integrates with her computerised embroidery software. However, there are 42 alphabet styles to choose from and the client never specified what alphabet letter style she paid for.

I sent 4 emails to the client already asking to please specify what alphabet letter style she requires so we can conclude the transaction. But there is simply no response and I have verified in PayPal and with PayPal that the email is correct.

PayPal told me that I need to give it 5 more days and perhaps try to email once more. If there is no dispute and no response from the customer, PayPal told me, then I have done my due diligence and it is then up to my discretion whether I pay the money back to the client or whether I choose to keep the money.

Now I do believe the ethical thing is probably to pay back the money (as is only $15 anyways) but just curious to know what you would have done in this position and wondering if any of you ever experienced a situation like this before where a client pays for an item and then just disappears without the client claiming what they paid for?

I am with Charlotte on this Schaik.

Many thanks! Agreed!

I would give her time to answer your e-mails and if no response in the allotted time then refund the money. It is the right thing to do.

Many thanks! Agreed!

I would give her the time to respond. If she doesn't, then refund. Some people just don't check their email.

Many thanks! Agreed!

OK, people. I have to disagree with the discussions here. As a language teacher, I need to go by your premise, which I am posting here below, similar to what attorneys would do, quote:

"The client paid $15 for an alphabet letter style that integrates with her computerised embroidery software. However, there are 42 alphabet styles to choose from and the client never specified what alphabet letter style she paid for".

How do you know if she is not happily enjoying her alphabet letter even if she did not specify the style? Why will you reimburse preemptively if she has not asked for a refund and she might be happy with whatever she got? You have done what was required by contacting her by email not once but four times. That is more than enough due diligence. Why don't you contact the software provider support team and ask them if a client purchases a letter without specifying style if they get one by default? This might be the case and then there is no need for a refund. She got it! :)

Hope this helps, Schalk! You have designed a beautiful site and I am impressed with the gorgeous artwork that can be done with this piece of software. Are you targeting quilters? They might be interested in buying from you big time! Best, Paula :)

I'm not certain that he has shipped it yet or streamed it or whatever, Paula--he states he's waiting to conclude the transaction. I could be wrong about it though!😊

Yip thanks to both of you. That is correct. The transaction is not concluded and not ordered for the client as yet.

Many thanks, Paula. Yes, the transaction has not been concluded and ordered on behalf of the client as yet as she had not specified what she would like me to order, but I will wait and be patient for a while longer and send out one more email.

And yes I am involved in a couple of niches at the moment. Embroidery computerised software niche I stumbled upon by accident (was defo not something in a million years I could dream of getting involved with, but thats a story for another time lol) and then the online marketing niche.

Better to do the right thing Schalk, that way it can't come back on you later. I like the saying: 'Integrity is doing the right thing even if no one knows,'

Absolutely right! Many thanks!
