Standalone domain vs sub-domains
I know I can use Wealthy Affiliate's 'Ask a Question' feature but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to turn my question into a blog.
I'm looking for a personal finance domain. Most of the key word combinations are already taken so finding something short, sweet, and with the key words I want is proving difficult.
I've read lots of guides to choosing a domain. This is one of the better ones I've found from way back in 2014 - WA Blog by EliteImhub.
Branding
With all of the key words already taken I've had to turn to alternative means of choosing a domain, in particular choosing a brandable word rather than something 'literally relevant'. I'm okay with this. I know that it will ultimately be my content that drives readers to my website rather than the domain name itself.
However if I am to do this, why not consolidate all of my other websites under the one brand into subdomains?
At the moment I have www.theragewithin.com (for fitness) and www.chookscratch.com (for personal writing). Rather than come up with a third domain why not just move everything to www.bolt.com ? (madeup domain for the purposes of this article)
This way I can have www.fitness.bolt.com AND www.finance.bolt.com
Benefits
www.bolt.com is harnless enough. It's easy to remember, inoffensive and my SEO will drive traffic to the subdomains regardless. Other benefits would be saving money on domain rental.
I can also construct a nice landing page to syphon off those who land on the mother domain www.bolt.com itself.
Negatives
What are the negatives?
Why should I stick with separate domains?
Which path should I take?
Thanks for reading I hope you'll take the time to leave a comment. Cheers

I would focus on a single URL per site and not go with subdomains. For a second there I thought you were on the right track with branding.
Give Jay's Branding Live Event a look. Branding
I watched that video and I've decided, after some thought to go with separate domains. To be honest watching the video has raised more questions for me than it answered. It was very thought provoking. The content was excellent. I just hadn't considered branding beyond having a fancy banner/logo.

Think of domains as your online brand. Physical shops have signboards, online equivalent is a domain name.
.siterubix.com can be used for short term setup, then migrate to domain name or as a secondary service where you are not investing in the site.
