Hi,

i recently decided to changed my hosting and my theme. Since then, i'm having an increase of direct traffic in my google analytics account and a drop of my organic

Not sure if these things as theme and traffic are related... Since it is not implemented. Just a decision.

HI Nadja. Thanks for your help. I've asked around ti my theme support. They checked everything and it's fine. I've asked my new host provider and it's the same.

I've asked for help on the GA forum but nobody can't give me ideas on this. But i know some people are having the same issue sometime.

It's seems it might be related to thd domain transfer, DNS or protocal change, etc ?

Any idea where i have to look more closely in your opinion ?

Sylvain

Hi everyone, nobody has a clue on where i need to look first. I've been searching for a week but i can't figure out what went wrong

Any help or advice someone ?

Thanks
Sylvain

Hi Sylvain; I really want to help you, but your question is vague. I cannot tell you where to look, when I am not certain what you want to look for.

Hi, thanks for your answer. The issue is quite simple. 3 weeks ago, I made some some changes. I moved my site to an other host provider, transferred my registrar here in France, and change my theme. I was offline’ for 15 days to work on my site. Then when I sent online again, I saw that my Google Analytics isn’t registering the traffic origin properly.

Since then, my direct traffic increase a lot compare to other Chanel’s. It’s like if GA isn’t able to know, for a part of my traffic, the origin, and then it goes to direct.

I know something went wrong as it’s not possible to have for me 300/400 people from direct traffic per day. All others channels decrease also and I’m pretty sure a big part of my direct traffic isn’t direct but from others channels.

Is that more clear ?
Sylvain

Sylvain; yes; you are more clear now. Is it WA you transfer to? If it is WA hosting you have transfer to you could contact: Site Support.

If not, you could log into your Google Analytic account and search it out from them directly why it is how it is.

I hope that this will help you and I wish you success.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

No I decided to leave the hosting here to else where. So site suppers can't help me. Do you have a way to contact GA ?

Hi everyone,

i decided to transfert my domain name outside of WA. I received an email from WA telling me that my domain name will proceed the Mar 11 2018 9:10AM. So tha

Transferring your domain name does not move your website from one host to another. It only means that when you renew your domain name you pay another company.

Hi Marion,

thanks for your feedback on this. Of course, it doesn't mean it transfer my website, i already know this :-)

I already move my website else where in France for different personal choices. I want to have everything here. I was just wondering if it was au automatic system or not. I will wait until tomorrow.

Thanks !
Sylvain

Yes, it's automatic so it doesn't matter what day of the week or what time of day it is anywhere in the world.

Thanks Marion, if you're right, that does mean, there is a problem here, as my domain tranfert was supposed to start the 11 March at 9.10 am.

Nothing happened yet so far from what i saw. I will wait from the support answer. They have to help me here as i purchased the domain name through WA.

Thanks

Sylvain

Time is relative Sylvain. whatever time it is for you in your part of the world it's a different time in other time zones. Right now, for me, it's 10:30 am Tuesday 12th March.

Wait until a a couple of days have passed before getting concerned.

Yes of course, it's relative. Here it's 14.05 pm, 11th march. I will wait then for some news.

Sylvain

Hi, I believe when they (WA) say "by March 11 by 9:10am" they don't truly mean by that exact date and time. This is based on my experience. However, I am sure this will be resolved within a few days as Marion states.

Follow up with Site Support, but I wouldn't be too concerned unless this process remained unchanged for the next 3-4 days.

Hi, i just received an email an hour ago of my new registrar that the transfert was completed. Everything is fine now.

Thanks :-)

Fabulous, you are on your way!

It's good they let you know :)

Yes it is

I think the WA email is pretty straight forward.
You don't reply to it and the transfer goes ahead.
It is Sunday however so I would wait until tomorrow.
Robert

Thanks on your opinion Robert. I guess i will have to wait until tomorrow. I don't have any news sadly from support and they said they can't have any news on the transfert. It's our of their hand as they said but, i mean, we actually register here at WA. So in my opinion, WA should be able to gave us some news.

Have you contacted your new Hosting company?
They might be able to give you more info than WA.
I'm afraid because you are leaving them they might not be feeling too helpful.
Robert

Of course, i've contacted them. Everything is alright on their side and the only thing they're waiting is the approval of my old registrar (here on WA -> enom)

I will wait until tomorrow to see what happen. But tomorrow is the last day according to my new registrar. I'll see what happen.

Thanks
Sylvain

Hi everyone,

i was thinking, does someone has any recent news on the necessity to use backlinks to improve SEO from Google ?

I've talked on my side with SEO prof

Hi Sylvain,

It’s not so much an issue of how many backlinks, but more how they are acquired.

There is no harm in having NATURALLY acquired backlinks.
Just don’t go out and and try to get them.

Thanks Jay for your feedback on this.

Is there any proof that we don't want to go out here and get them (paid backlink). What is the difference actually between having them naturally or not ?

Because from what i know, you can actually buy a "natural link". What are you thoughts about this ?

Thank you Jay for the clarifying information on this!

As far as I know, random backlinks are no good. Backlinks to authority websites IN your niche are the only ones which can be helpful.

Hi Loes, thanks for your opinion on this. This is really a big question for me as the opinion on this are so different.

This might have your interest

Thanks Loes, i will have a look at it :-)

From Kyle, Sylvain - Tony

Thanks. Yes that's an opinion, 2 years ago. I wonder if that change or not.

Kyle clearly think it's not necessary but if you have a look on Google, you will also found opposite opinion on the matter

Featured Comment

Hi Sylvain,

In the past couple of weeks there have been two servers that have caused issues for us. One server with a couple hundred sites on it, had a hardware failure on January 1st, and we replaced the server entirely within the day. That said, that server has had some configuration issues that we have been working through when issues arise.

The second issue we encountered in the past week has been a Botnet attack resembling a DDos attack on the server that you are referring to. In a few cases the server has been unresponsive.

What are we dong about this?

There is nothing that a web host can do to STEP DDos or Botnet attacks but they can, and we are, implementing new methods to deal with the massive flood of traffic that can bring a server to its knees. One of the things we have been working overtime on is to improve our SiteSpeed platform. SiteSpeed is the answer to being able to sustain a Botnet attack, brute force attacks, or DDos attacks, and we're making upgrades to it so that we can minimize any downtime in these issues.

I want to be clear, that we have had problems with TWO of hundreds of servers. This affects less than 0.05% of the network here at WA. That said, we will not stop working until 0% of people's sites are affected with slow response times, or downtime.

Carson

Edit: I thought your site may be getting targeted but it's not, so please ignore my note about that that I've removed above.

One of my sites for a paying customer (I just invoiced them for $1,500 on Tuesday) has been down all day, it was down yesterday for a while, and it was down at least one other time in the past week. That is more than the DDoS attack that you reference, it has nothing to do with brute force attacks, and is not limited to a few people. I have been back and forth with Support all day to no avail. I'm exhausted with it Carson and was just on live chat with Kyle. I need a resolution to this issue ASAP. Thanks!

Thanks you Carson for your personal answers and explanation. I will be waiting then for an MP :-)

I hope we can resolve this issue soon.

Sylvain

PS : i'm also struggling with support about some WA platform limitation, especially when you're working with premium site who needs more resources. For now, they said they can't do anything about it. That said, for now, some of my theme option aren't available because of these limitations, from what i understand from my theme support. I think you should know.

Have a look at the attached file.

I'm not the only person complaining about working on WA hosting with a premium theme. I know at least 3 peoples who left Wa hosting regarding these issues.

Thanks for your help
Sylvain

Hi Bob,

Not sure what you mean that this is more than a DDos Attack? This server was being getting hit with a wide range of 40,000 IP's causing over 4000 requests per second. We managed to implement some new routing rules and have the server stabilized. One option is to move your (or your client's) website to another server. If you would like us to do that we can, however the server under attack has been stabilized.

Carson

Hey Sylvain,

Custom PHP setups would require a dedicated server, it's not something we can implement on a shared web server. Changing a PHP version or configuration variables can have many affects on how a server performs and how sites work, so it's not something we can just switch. A dedicated server would be an option if it's something you need, however at this time we do not offer dedicated servers here at WA.

With that said, as we move our network forward having different classes of servers, at different costs etc for those that require more resources could be an option. We'll definitely consider something of this nature for the future.

Carson

Hey Carson, thanks for your explanation about all this. In my (humble) opinion this is something you should consider, as you said in the future.

Do I do to worry about my site being slow now or everything is back to normal ?

If you can answer me honestly about this : does the siterubix server are the same as our live server ?

I'm not sure were are we on my site and if everything is ok now, but my live site is still slow ?

What I mean Carson is that you can tell me it was a DDoS attack yesterday. Ok, I'll accept that. So was it a DDoS attack that knocked the same site offline the day before? And how about 2 days before that? The truth is that a DDoS attack is not the only issue causing disruption of service.

I have had a number of sites down in the past 2 weeks, as have many others here. We have created Support Tickets. Our sites are restored and then crash again. I have repeatedly asked Support for explanations and have received none.

It is disingenuous to claim that there have been limited hosting issues here Carson. That is simply not true. And I understand that all companies, and all hosting companies, experience these issues. So it is not unique to WA. Still, as paying members, we expect timely and accurate solutions to these issues.

Unfortunately, we often are faced with no response at all and/or half answers. And that is the part that is frustrating Carson. I like the community here at WA, but I am disappointed with the hosting. I am guilty of placing all of my eggs in one basket, as I moved nearly all of my sites here.

Today I will begin moving them to another hosting company I use. One which, by the way, has not experienced the types of issues I experience here - meaning that none of those sites had disruption of service. Again, as paying members, we deserve that there is a minimum of downtime, and also solutions to be presented from the top down as problems arise.

Thanks.

THANKS for your feedback on this. Usually I don’t have any problem with the hosting except what I said in my other message about the WA limitation. That’s a shame for me and I guess I’m not the only one needing more ressources for my premium theme. If this doesn’t evolve, I might need to change of hosting too.

Actually my live site is still quite slow and I’m waiting for Carson to tell me whenever everything is back to normal.

It's been my experience that Kyle and Carson (READING THIS GUYS???) offer answers to appease rather than solve. That is unfortunate because I LOVE the platform and community here. The hosting issues and lack of honest answers and solutions give me no other alternative than to move all of my sites elsewhere.

Thanks for your feedback. I had no idea they were some other issues with the server. But i agree, we do miss of real answer from support sometimes. As i already said, i understand this is not a "very expensive" platform, regarding what they offer here, but the hosting i'm sure could be better.

Hi Bob,

Yes, attacks on servers happen, it's something that we work very hard to mitigate. In the case of an attack on a server, we work to block that attack, but attackers are clever and their IP's change, and we have to also adapt. I do apologize for any slowness of your site(s) and for the downtime your client's site. We have 100's of servers, so we can move a site to a different server if that's something you would like. All web hosts online deal with attacks on servers, it's unfortunately something that can happen from time to time. It's less and less a problem here at WA because we are building all kinds of infrastructure to mitigate attacks, and we have, but this one was huge, it was broad, and we had to create technology to deal with it.

If you would like to discuss your individual sites we can via PM, maybe move them to a different server, double check that SiteSpeed caching is on for the sites etc.

You're getting nothing but honest answers here Bob.

Carson

Hi Sylvain, I've just checked your site and it's loading quickly on my end. Keep in mind that SiteSpeed caching works when you are NOT logged in as Admin. Test your site in a different browser. I just tested your site in Google Pagespeed insights and you are getting 99/100 for a desktop score on your homepage. Your mobile score is poor because of the image sizes. Your website performance is going to suffer until you fix the LARGE image file sizes on your homepage. Reducing the file size of your images can really help page speed loading times.

Google is happy with Server response time, which means the server is responding in less than 0.2 seconds. That's incredibly fast. See screenshot attached.

Carson

Carson, I welcome and encourage the opportunity to speak and/or message you and Kyle privately. In my attempts to do so, the screenshot below is the option I receive. So that's not an open option of communication - let's just be clear on that.

To reiterate, I LOVE this WA platform and I know you have extended a lot of energy to grow it. I see room for growth, personally and professionally, for all involved, but that requires communication.

I'll stop at this point, and since I cannot communicate directly with you, ask that you and Kyle use SurfsideBobby@gmail.com to communicate privately.

Thanks for your time and consideration.
Bob

Thanks for your feedback. i'm working to change my entire theme as we speak soon, so i will have a brand new site soon and i will take care of the image size of course.

Thanks.

Yes that's new and it's quite difficult now to speak privately.

Check you PM's Bob, I've just reached out. In the future if you need to get in touch, choose one of the 3 options on the bottom row. That will get the message through directly to Kyle or I. First line of contact is always SiteSupport, but for something like this feel free to use one of the 3 options:

Billing
WA Affilaite Program
Report Content

Carson

Carson,

Can you tell me if the hosting are the same for Siterubix or our live site ?

I see your PM and will respond, thank you. I have tried to reach out to y'all for days. You are responding now because I'm being a pain in the butt and would rather I be quiet. I had hoped you'd respond because you value my input and experience

On that note, and with regard to your "metrics" regarding rank. Are you aware that many considered "Ambassadors" cannot even use spell check, nor understand HTML and CSS, and offer advice that is often times erroneous? There was a person ranked 37 today that didn't even understand the value of a child theme! Good grief, I reckon!!!

What is then the true value of an Ambassador? How is that "rank" determined? A prudent person would think it would have to do with knowledge, and success, and a level of encouraging others to grow - not simply because they posted umpteen blogs of boredom. Just an observation from a person with a brain.

Hear where I'm coming from please. You and Kyle have blown people off who have legitimate concerns, and you're massaged those with brown noses. I am going to tend to my father now. I will respond to your PM soon and thank you Carson for the open line of communication.

I know you don't dig my perspective, and I do not care. We ALL pay you for this opportunity. Peace my friend. :-)

Are those WA servers on AWS. My understanding is that AWS offers a decent DDOS protection -- https://aws.amazon.com/shield/. As a mater of fact my site is down today, but I am not making any money off of it so not a big deal.

Hi Sylvain,

Yes, the hosting is the same if you are a Premium member for SiteRubix.com sites or Registered Domains.

Carson

Hi Zbigniew, if you are having an issue with your website, please create a hosting support ticket so we can look into this. It may not be at all related to this recent DDos Attack.

Thanks for your feedback on this.

Wow, I haven't really noticed any problems with my WA sites.

One of my sites for a paying client has been down all day - the third time in a week. Support says it's a DDoS attack and has assured me for the past 6 hours that it would restored shortly. It hasn't. Many people are experiencing hosting with little to no explanation or assistance. :-/

Thanks you for your answer and explanation. That's my case, i've been asking questions to support, but no real answers for now. My Siterubix site as been up and down too since a few days.

I understand this is not a "very expensive platform" considering what they're offering but the hosting here in WA seems very disappointing in my humble opinion and people are starting to realize this.

It's been terrible the past few weeks and they know it. Enough from me on this, I'm exhausted already.

AWS offers protection against DDOS -- https://aws.amazon.com/shield/. The first tier may not necessarily be the greatest, but it is there. For better protection they offer AWS Shield Advanced, but that is most likely an expensive option to have. I do not have a level of business you do so if my site is down it is not such a big deal, but I can understand your frustration. I hope all is working great for you, Bob.

same here. totally agree with you.

Do you have any relevant information from support to know where all this problems are coming from ?

not really to be honest, I contact them and they are fast as always but not giving me information abou the slowness or the issues. I had and I am still having a lot of tickets regarding several issues.
now I see that I cannot open my webmail.that's new :)

yes there seems to be a lot of issues. I had others issues lately with Sitespeed messing with my site, SSL activation which was not working at all and messing things up.

It's a bit disappointing after all.

Hi everyone and happy new year :-)

i'm actually on my new them for my site on my siterubix free test site. I'm having lot of trouble to work on it as it's very very slow

Carson's been doing work on this today and I think it's fixed noe!

Maybe some things have been fixed but the back end of our premium site being very slow isn't.

I Got Problem to Use WA Pls Help me

What kind of problem?

Yes, I just checked my SiteRubix site (with a premium theme) and it's extremely slow. Live chat and Jaaxy are down, so obviously they're having a problem...

I've been having a speed problem with one of my own sites for weeks though...(not the site speed but WP-Admin speed) while other sites are fast enough. The support hasn't been able to fix it or find out the reason, unfortunately....

Yes that's what i thought for today about live chat and Jaxxy. It's almost impossible for me work on my siterubix site.

And usually my Siterubix WP admin speed is awfully slow and i have an connexion lost error a lot these days with my premium theme. The support hasn't been able to fix it too.

Am i the only thinking these Siterubix sites are not the same as our paid domain. I'm not sure how this works but i'm sure this are not the same...

I think Carson has said in the past that Siterubix sites are slower and have less security setting. He's said the benefits (speed/extra security) are available for WA premium members, perhaps it means not Siterubix sites, which can be built by free members...?

This post for example

Thanks for your feedback on this. The thing is with a premium theme, it's extremely slow. I already sent this issue to WA support but they haven't found the problem yet.

I've also told them the WA platform had some limitation regarding what a premium theme will need. But they seems to disagree.

I agree, it's slow with my Thrive theme...! I really hope that they'll find the problem....!

Yes for now i'm working on my new theme on my Siterubix test site. When i will move everything on my live site, i hope things are going to be better. Otherwise, i will be hosting my site else where for sure. I can't always work like this...

What theme is it?

Thrive!
Is it only slow on a free domain or on a paid one as well?

I'm working on the 7. Did you also had any problem with a premium theme ?

Ar you thinking too there is a difference here in Wa between these two ?

Yes.
Thrive. But while using my own domain. Just the same as you described.
The site itself is normal.
But the backend is super slow.
So I moved that site to another hosting.

I am not really using the free sites. So I can't say if there is a difference.

That's what i'm telling to the support. There is a big difference and the back end is awfully slow to work on. Depending of the day, it's almost impossible. i'm also having a connexion lost issue but they haven't figured it out. i'm not sure they will as they told me everything seems fine on their side...

If nothing change, i will host my site else where for sure too, as you did.

It could be a memory problem.

But as I said, I can't say if there is a difference between the free and premium sites.
Not really using the free sites. Especially not with a premium theme.

Have you tried that theme on a premium site?

And after you moved your site to an other hosting, was the back end still slow or not ?

After moving it to Siteground the backend runs normal.
Very fast.
I was lucky enough that I made this decision around Black Friday.
So I got one of their faster plans for cheaper (called "Geek").

Yes you're right about the memory problem i think too. My theme support checked my hosting and they told me there was a PHP version problem / PHP Max Input Vars problem and PHP time limit problem too, what ever that means.

I told them everything but they told me here at Wa, this is a shared server and they can't made custom PHP change. So nothing changed for now.

That's a pity.

That's the proof it is related to WA servers for sure.

Yes it is in my opinion.

You aren't alone... My site crashed on me... I am figure things out however!

Your siterubix site ?

I haven't experienced any difference in the two sites. However, today it seems there are some issues with the server.

I don't know what's happening today but i can't access the live chat and my siterubix site is almost impossible to work on it. It's way to slow and in my opinion, it's related to the free server. It can't be the same server i'm sure as it's free ?
