You May Have a Featured Snippet and Not Know It

Could You Have a Featured Snippet on the Search Engines and Not Even Know It?

Yes! Featured snippets can be pulled from any part of our posts. You could be searching for your title but not realize a featured snippet is out there based on a different part of your post.

I saw on Jaaxy Site Rank today that one of my keywords is at #1 on Google, Yahoo and Bing. I decided to go look and see if I had a featured snippet on one of them since Jaaxy (at least the free version) does not show that. I had a featured snippet for 6 months for this post on Bing but it went away recently. Now I have a new featured snippet for the same post but it is under a different version of the long tail keyword and it is a different snippet. Bing has taken a differnet part of my post and created a snippet from it. When I went to Bing, this is what I saw!

So instead of a snippet about what the product is, now there is a snippet about how to use the product.

This shows that we could have featured snippets and not even be aware of it. I have read advice that says we should write in paragraph form and clearly answer questions in order to increase odds of getting a featured snippet. I guess this snippet is a good example of that since it is a clear explanation of how to do something. The heading is not the title of my post itself, but a heading from within my post.

This is a great boost to my mood today since my traffic and sales have been down and I have not had time to add much to my sites again. It is great to know some things keep ticking away and there could be something going up in the background even while we think things are going down.

Onward and Upward,

Jessica

Hi, Jessica,

That is brilliant. Those snippets count for so much.
I could do with some of those myself.
Awesome.

Have a beautiful day hunni.
Debs :)

Thank you Debs! It is quite exciting. I have at least 4 now that I know of! The others are about my Norwegian Forest Cat and My French Chartreux. Pretty neat that if people search for variations on those terms they can find my posts!

It is really good. I could do with some pointers on what you do to get them.
Thats awesome Jessica. Brilliant for your business/es.
Debs :)

Thanks Debs. I don't know much about it, just what I have written in this post and the last two about snippets in recent weeks.

You should write in paragraphs and clearly answer a question in a few sentences. I try to keep that in mind now when I write a post about what a product is or how to use it.

I am not sure what other factors are involved except it probably has to be ranked in the top 3-5 search results in order to be in the running. That is just my own observation.

I recently discovered I have one as well. Definitely a mood booster!

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations Kim!!!

Glad to know, thanks.

No problem.

Congrats on the new snippet.

Thank you Mickey!

Great to know, Jessica. Thank you very much.

Thank you.

Awesome to hear Jessica! Congrats on the featured snippet! Keep doing what you do!
Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Thanks Sherry! Featured snippets seem to come easily to me which is great. It seems strange when I am getting less traffic and no sales though! I am sure tomorrow it could suddenly pick back up.

You're very welcome Jessica! Well, that seems strange, you'd think you'd have more traffic and sales with featured snippets, not the opposite. But, the more notice you get the better, so I'm sure it should pick up soon, at least I'd think so and hope so too! My sales haven't been very good either, but then again, I haven't been posting much on the niche I was getting sales from which is probably a big reason for me anyways...gotta get busy with it again, lol. :)

Well, the snippets go up and seem to stay up for a month or more. These could have been there for a few weeks and I didn't even know it I guess. A few weeks ago I had high traffic since I was a bit more active. So, luckily the snippets tend to weather the ups and downs a bit more and not go up and down so dramatically. That is nice!

How cool is that! Congrats, Jess!

Yes, thanks Carol!

You're welcome!

Congratulations Jessica.

Thank you Johann!

Congratulations Jessica.

Soon I will refer to you as Mrs. Featured Snippets. lol

All the best
Maxine

Thanks Maxine. The irony is my traffic is down and I am getting no sales now...oh well! I certainly won't complain! Once I start being more active I am sure those will pick up. I am working on a post on a cold remedy on my nutrient site right now.

So do you just find out in the usual way through site rank?

No. Jaaxy and all the other rank checkers I have used don't show it. You have to go look yourself. If I have a post ranking well (top 3 in search engine results) I will go look and see just in case one might be a featured snippet. That is why many people may have them and not even realize it. This one I am showing here has the #1 and #2 spots on Bing right now and at least the #1 on Google and Yahoo as well but I had to go look at all three manually to see if I had a snippet.

Thanks, Jessica.

No problem Fran.
