A friend's fiancee asked me to help her assess and improve the website for her father's business. He is a doctor and it is his private clinic! How cool is that?!!! I am so flattered and really had no idea how to answer when she asked what rate I would charge! I have never done anything like this before! I can think of a lot of different possibilities of how to charge; hourly, per page, etc. Does anyone do this or have any idea what a reasonable rate would be? I don't want it to be too high since I have no experience doing this for other sites.

It is very exciting though! He does sports medicine and advocates for all the nutrient type cures that I use and want to promote on my own website someday. I have only met his daughter once. My husband and I went to dinner with our friend Andy (they used to work together on the railroad) and her (his fiancee). My husband will be a groomsman in their wedding and Andy traveled to Hawaii to be at our wedding.

Anyway, I am really baffled at how much to charge. I would do it for free if they asked but I have never met her father and he is a doctor so I am sure he can afford whatever my small fee would be! It would be a great way to start a little side business!

I suggested my husband and Andy start a business together years ago when he helped my husband build his custom computer. Now they both want to do blacksmithing so I suggested they should start that as a business together. My husband got the idea they could blacksmith custom computer towers and then build the computers. That is a looong shot but anyway...there are a bunch of entrepreneurial ideas swarming around this group!

I had no sales again today...of well, better to get this offer anyway.

Thoughts on a rate?

Thanks,

Jessica

Jessica, that's really great! What a wonderful opportunity! With regards to a rate - I would suggest doing some research and finding out what the going rate is - you could go just a little lower than that, since you've said you have no experience - but I would argue that point a little - you have lots of experience editing and creating your own website, right? Good luck!

Thank you for that vote of confidence Julie! I appreciate it.

I think it's great. I would replay, " yes" and see where this goes

Yes, I will! Thank you!

As a consultant, you can charge as much as $200./hour but you can say $100 am hour and they won't think that's outrageous because that's what they'd pay anyone else they called

I am thinking of something lower than that since it is a friend's family business. I will have to see how it goes though. Thank you for your encouraging suggestion!

Great news Jessica, it's another door opening for you.

Yes, thank you!

That's exciting, what a great opportunity! Congrats!

Yes, it is. Thanks!

Hello Jessica,
Wow this is a very good opportunity so get advise before you put up your price or charge. Good luck.

I am, thank you very much!

My doctor has always said do not bother about the money because it will just come and now she is opening another office!!!

Ha ha, yes...that is true!

Hey Jessica, I would charge per page. Have you signed up with webfluential? Webfluential gives you a media kit and some guidelines on what to charge.

I have not. I will definitely check it out. Thanks for the suggestion Lauren!

Hi, Jessica that is awesome news so exciting for you, like all business a rule of thumb is to check out the competition what are similar businesses charging for a similar service a good place to start.
I think Jay is well into this type of business I seem to recall in one of his webinars ( but don't quote me on it lol ) that a rate of $ 50 per hour was in the ballpark it depends if it is a one off or you are intending to look at developing an income stream around this activity............... there is certainly enough training here at WA to enable this to be a possibility.then you may look at going for a smaller price point and accruing it as social proof which seems to speak volumes in the online world just 2 cents..

Thanks Alexander. Yes, I was thinking whatever I charge it would be important to use it as a way to build experience and get a good recommendation. A good review from a local doctor can't hurt right!?

Top of the range I would say, Jessica, I am sure that the receptionist will spread the word for you and like they say you can not beat word of mouth

Wow, that's exciting Jessica! I've no experience in this regard, and work with a different currency, so can't advise you on a rate! But definitely get advice from the experts here and DO charge...it's your time and expertise that you've gained here that will be to there advantage!

Good luck!

Natalie
