Wow! I had not checked my page speed in a very long time but apperently something has greatly improved. Because every single one of my posts has a desktop speed rating of 100 or 99 it makes me think it is something WA did rather than anything I did.

Here is what my page speed looked like before I clicked the "Refresh" button:

Here is what they look like after I click "Refresh" for each one:

Thank you WA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My page speeds were not all as low as those shown above but as you can see a lot of them were. My speeds were faster years ago but then went down last year for some reason. I am thrilled to see this improvement!

My second site fares even better! That is because it is younger and I don't have old clutter on there from before I understood SEO.

Wow! This looks wonderful, Jessica!!!

But not for my website. :-( Lots of red by mobile ...
One more thing to look into it.

Thank you for sharing!
Aloha, Jenna

Thanks Jenna. I hope you get it figured out. There are many things to look at such as compressing your images. I use tinypng.com for that.

Yes, Jessica!
And compressing of images is THE keyword. I will try it. What do you think about Photo shop? I can re-size picture for my blogs there. I would also take out some images.
In my mobile compartment is all red now. Wasn't that bad when I looked last time but I made many changes on my website and ;-) improvements.

Thank you for sharing!!
Aloha, Jenna

Hi Jenna,

I am not an expert on any of this but re-sizing might not be the same as compressing. It helps but it isn't the same thing I don't think. I would still run all your images through some sort of compression. Tinypng.com is online and really easy. It can't handle really large images however.

There are many plugins that compress images too. Some are mentioned in other comments here. I don't have a lot of experience to compare so I can't tell you which is best.

Good luck!
Jessica

Thank you, Jess!
It is a good point! I opened the link already and will try it!
Will let you know.
Thank you for your support!
Aloha, Jenna

Thank you so much, Jessica for the recommendation!!
I'm using the website right now, and it is easy and fast!!
I didn't check the speed yet for there is lots of compressing to do. But I know this will work!!

Thank you so much, Jess for the great hint!!
Love and light to you!
Aloha, Jenna

I am so glad it helped you Jenna. I really like it because it is SO easy to use! I highly recommend it to everyone!

Thanks for letting me know,
Jessica

Always getting better! :-)

Yes!

That's great, Jessica. It's always good to see an improvement. Now I will go and check mine.

I hope it's good! You may need to compress the other images if it isn't as fast as you want.

Jessica,

Happy for you and good to know. Off to check my page speed now!

Erica

Make sure you have Extreme turned on!

I recently noticed a toggle switch that had Accelerated selected. There was another one with Extreme labeled. I unchecked Accelerated and selected Extreme and have results like the ones you just shared. I think I found it a couple nights ago and was like, "WOW!"

That was implemented last year (summer maybe or early fall). I don't know if I just didn't check it again since then. I had Extreme selected too.

Thanks.

I asked Site Support the other day because my mobile speed dropped kind of alarmingly. They said it depends on the time of day and such and often fluxuates. That said, it's definitely useful to check for alarmingly slow mobile speed.

Oh that is interesting! Who would have thought it would vary by time of day!! I didn't think it was relative to traffic etc. I thought it was independent.

Yeah, crazy right? This is the exact wording:

"Rochelle,

Please note that the PageSpeedInsight score keeps varying throughout the day so you need not worry about it and it will not affect your website SEO and rankings."

🤷

Crazy..

Congratulations on your page speed I don't know what my speed is because I don't know how to check it I am learning new things that I didn't know before.

I still feel like I am a newbie in some areas and this is one of those areas.

Mary

It is really easy Mary:
1) Click on "Websites" on the left side of the page here on WA.
2) Click on "View All My Websites" at the top right side of the pop up box.
3) Scroll to the website you want to check (if you have multiple).
4) Click on "SitePlus+" which is at the bottom right side of the box for that website.
5) Scroll down until you see "Page Speed Insights".

This is good to know about site speed. And thanks for sharing how to check it. Very helpful.

No problem!

Thank you, Jessica, I really appreciate your help on this now I can check on my site page speed insights.

Mary

I am glad I could help Mary. If you want ideas for how to speed up your site, check this out: https://gtmetrix.com/wordpress-optimization-guide.html

Thank you, Jessica, but I checked my numbers and they are great at least I think they are great they are between 90's and 100's that is for the desktop and the mobile is in the 70's.

But I will check it out though thank you again for all your help I really appreciate that so very much.

Mary

The majority of people are moving to mobile so we have to make sure those speeds are fast (green). I just saw a lot of comments here about slower mobile speeds so that is why I mentioned it.

You are doing well!

I am running between the 70's-90's so is that good I hope. I have yellows and greens that is if I am reading it right.

GTmetrix I got 93% for the green and 73% for the yellow so I hope that is good.

I am not an expert on this but higher is always better. On other sites when I check my speed it is lower so I really don't know.

I am not sure myself so I am going to take it that it is good and I am not an expert either but like you said green is the ultimate color in mind so all is good,

I didn't know it but there is a new speed setting. I changed to Extreme Site Speed. My mobile scores aren't good but I use amp so that's ok. All my desktop scores went up. A huge improvement. :):) 👍👏

Yes, mine was at Extreme. When did that get added. Last summer?

I have no idea. Shows how fast WA changes, and how often I check in. Lol

It is nice that improvements are made and we don't have to pay for upgrades!

Strange. You got me excited because last I checked for some reason it was in yellow zone, so I went to check again and now it's all red... (below 50 and even 30). I have no idea why that's the case with me.

Oh no! I hope there isn't some big glitch and my results are not real...I certainly hope yours are not real though! I wonder?

Thanks for letting me know!!

Go to site manager refresh your websites then do it again if it still doesn't change check the pagespeed area then go back and refresh I have found sometimes in needed to re check and it works well.

I had the same problem a short while ago. Desktop in the amber, mobile in the red. I asked support why and they said everything was fine their end. Told me it was an issue with my Premium theme provider and to contact their support instead. So I did and they also said speed was fine LOL.

Which narrows things down to the Google speed score insights not doing it's job properly. Even now with "extreme" selected, desktop is in the green, mobile in the amber for every post.

But if Jessica is getting green for everything, then what gives?

If I go to http://gtmetrix.com, my site speed is in the green.

There always seems to be unsolved questions with the whole site speed thing. I guess we just need to trust the hosting.

Interesting. Thanks for the additional insights! I am still confused.

Thanks for your feedback Neil! According to GTmetrix, my page score is 91% and Yslow is 69% (what is yslow anyway!?) - definitely better than what was shown in WA page insights. I was surprised of all the red dots because when I check my website from different devices it's always loading within 3-4 seconds.

Thanks for the tip!

Jessica, to be honest I don't trust the WA page insights anymore, I usually end up checking on other resources. How can I have all the red points if my website seems to be fast enough? Not lighting fast, but still.

You are welcome sometimes I have found in the past with the site speed I may have to do it two or three times as when I check in pagespeed it is better that is why I suggested the way i mentioned below

Lets us know how you went once you get the chance

Wishing you well

Andre

I tried the link you gave above an my site (the one I am talking about here) has a rating of E (really bad!). My second site which is much newer and smaller gets an A!

According to the report I need to compress images...I already do that but I need to go back and check my really old posts and see if I still need to compress those.

I checked WA's results and WA gets a C for speed. That makes me feel a little better.

Their Wordpress Optimization Guide looks pretty useful however. Here is the link: https://gtmetrix.com/wordpress-optimization-guide.html

I don't trust Jaaxy (at least the Lite version I have). I wonder if this is similarly variable?

Dylan mentioned that Jaaxy will show less searches when in reality it's more (I think same with my results), especially if we're talking about best of posts/reviews ranking on the first page.

Well I know it doesn't show our rankings accurately. It can be too high or too low.

No problem! I've always been confused in this internet marketing industry lol.

No worries! :)

I have NO idea what YSLOW represents. Just aim for it to be in the green LOL.

For all we know, Google insights is displaying incorrect data. I think the feature also got a makeover a short while ago, which may have also affected and changed how it scores speeds. Who knows.

Maybe Ubersuggest can tell you more.NeilPatel has added interesting features to the site far more interesting than Jaaxy.

WA hosting seems to be fast. So maybe the tools aren't always 100% accurate. I just don't know lol.

As for compression, there are plugins that can help to compress those images. Also, you can reduce the file sizes yourself within media. However, if you reduce the file sizes too much manually can also affect the quality of images, making them blurry.

You'll also find that ads on your site, like Google Adsense, etc, also contribute to slow site speeds. Once I removed Google Adsense from my site, it helped to improve scores.

Thanks for the link. :)

I use tinypng.com to compress my images. I often get an extra 30%-50% compression.I know there are plugins too but haven't used any yet.

I don't have Google Adsense or any ads, just a couple banners on my whole site. I try to keep my site very clean and non-cluttered.

Thanks!

Maybe you will want results like this in some cases by using Imagify:

That is great to hear Jessica I haven't noticed any changes as I have similar results as your second one but it is great if they have made some more adjustments which is always good for us all.

Yes, that is what I thought but Zarina's all went down!!

Wow I just did one of my sites and they all increased a bit more mostly the mobile and the desktop are all 100 except for one site which i need to check out why

Good!

My second site is even better. I added the results above. It is younger and does not have old posts from before I understood SEO however so that is not surprising. I need to do more clean up.

That is great to hear Jessica hope others get theirs fixed and improved but there have been many inconstancies as we have seen.

Apparently the time of day changes Site Speed results here. That is what Selenityjade was told. Strange!

That is weird never had bad issues but then not surprised.

Nothing is perfect even the other speed sites one can use to check can vary a bit so not sure which to trust fully so I don't as long as they all show in green I am happy.

I have noticed that although our WA speed sites may show 100 for desktop or mobile as soon as I check the G page speed insight it is not always the same score normally 1 or 2 results lower than the WA version and that is clicking straight away
Try it out for yourself
Thanks for that

Andre

Yes, I have found the same thing. I know this is not totally accurate but it still gives us a good free, easy tool to get a rough idea how our pages are doing.

Yes I agree too and as long as it is quite similar results to the other versions I am happy plus it is quicker to check each page or post here by quickly clicking refresh than type each post or page one at a time
