What a Bummer, Rankings Faltering, Roller Coaster Down.
No, not WA ranking...Google ranking! After such a great week and increased Google rankings last week, I thought this week's Wincher update would be even better news! I was honestly expecting an increase even higher than last week!
I did not get that at all. My total ranking was down on Wincher this week by 82 places.
This is a cumulative total of all the keywords I have entered for it to track and is a score based on the movement over a month. So there is a bit of a lag as the scores are the change over a month but only updated once a week.
Last week they were up over 200 places. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. I still got better traffic and sales so I really can't complain. Strangely however, my traffic today has suddenly tanked! I don't know what is going on! Everything was going great until today and now everything has suddenly gone down.
I am still excited about my big news yesterday however that the veterinary cardiologist will submit a guest post to my website on whatever topic I ask her to write about! I also got some great sales last week on Amazon.
The roller coaster goes down, it will go up again.

A few weeks ago in the statistics of a site receiving no more than 6 or 7 visitors a day, suddenly there was 80 visitors all on the one day. No doubt that surge was due to a robot, or similar. It was disappointing the next day to see the numbers drop again.
Sometimes there's no explaining why such things happen.
Never mind, you have exciting things happening in the very near future. I'm sure that guest blog will be very valuable to your website :)

Still standing water goes bad... I wonder whether the same applies to Google rankings, since if it does - movement is a good thing, although we prefer it to only go up, don't we? ;-) LOL!

I don't know Sharlee. I do know there is a drastic difference between when I am creating content and not. Things are great (lots of traffic etc.) when I am adding content. When I stop it goes down though. That is probably what is happening here. I was very excited to get my review up comparing pet health insurance policies last week but I need to get more posts up more often.
Hang in there, Jessica! It'll go back up. I can't figure out my ranking, although I'm not really worried about it. I have been more active in the community for the past several days because I'm at that place in the training where you ask for comments. But my ranking is down 2 points tonight. Doesn't really matter to me, since I'm really focused on the training and getting more posts on my website, but it just seems strange. Take care.

Funny, my first thought was, "Jessica is writing about WA ranking?". Then I thought, "Nah...she's too focused on her business!"
I think you described the business perfectly, Jessica: it's a roller coaster. There are so many elements involved in ranking, that it's hard to pinpoint the exact reason for the rise and fall. But when it goes up, as it always does, it goes way up!

Hi Jessica, don't worry it's probably like this for everyone at some point. Google keeps doing it's own thing, I've learned not to trust them since most of the time they do mess up!
You should see the descriptions they messed up on my images. They are a mix of different posts they don't make sense so I noindexed and nofollowed my images!!
Who thought when we joined that behind the scenes with Google would be so crazy!

I know I am not adding content consistently enough to expect a one way ticket to the top though. That is my own fault. I just need to be more consistent in that regard.
I was the same, I didn't add any articles for almost a month but am back on track. Sometimes things come up outside of WA and we can't be on top of everything.
I wouldn't be concerned about this at all, keep your nose to the grindstone and keep pushing forward with your website.
The thing about Google, Bing and Yahoo updates now is that they are in real time and they are constantly shuffling. Now path to LOTS of 1st page rankings and authority is going to be linear, so this is normal to have peaks and valleys as you move up the latter.
I definitely wouldn't call this tanking, a consolidation of your rankings dropping by -81 is not a big issue. Also, if you are not using Jaaxy SiteRank you should definitely leverage this to track your rankings and you can see the fluctuations over time.
Thanks Kyle. I meant my traffic was tanking today for some reason. It has really dropped off. I know I am probably just running out of steam since my last post though and adding content will revive it.
I tried the Jaaxy tracking but it seems to only let us look at rankings one at a time on the Lite version. To actually track a keyword it asks us to upgrade.

Yeah, Lite version will still track a ranking, when you do another "search" on that keyword. It is manually, but you can still track the keyword over time simply be initiating another search.
Some will just say I am being negative but I have had many people thank me for showing there are down times and that is normal and to be expected! Thanks!
My personal opinion is I would like to see the ups and down. I mean I know they are going to be there but it makes me feel not so alone and that there is hope at the end.
I used to post more about the downs so others would know it was normal and we could all commiserate together to cheer each other up. I usually got chided to be more positive though...so I stopped. I know there is value in focusing on the positive so I try to. I can see where someone starting out might be reassured both by seeing success but also seeing those further along in this process have down times too.
