Well that was dumb and painful!
Do you ever get a random thought in your head about something and then it happens? You have to wonder if it was a premonition or if you jinxed yourself by somehow doing something to make the thought turn into reality even if you didn't want to or mean to?
I went to the store tonight to get ready to go on a day trip with my husband and his parents tomorrow down to a tiny town on the coast where you have to take the longest highway tunnel in the North America through a mountain to get there. This town was a secret outpost during World War II because the Japanese didn't know we had a tunnel so it was a way to get supplies by boat onto the train and then up to the military bases. The Japanese attacked Alaska in the Aleutian Islands and it was the only place where they occupied part of the United States so it was a big deal here. There are old World War II bunkers in many places that you can still see around here and we have a very strong military presence to this day. We live close to a joint Army/Air Force base and can hear the artillary at night, helicopters and fighter jets sometimes. Nowadays North Korea is the leading concern and of course in the past it was Russia. We are close to all of them and still escort Russian fighters out of our airspace.
It is a tiny little fishing and tourist town now. My in-laws are considering buying a boat there and are going to look at the boat tomorrow. I should be asleep right now but I am trying to cool down my foot and ankle.
So, back to the store. A little background info. I have erythromalalgia which is a condition which affects blood flow to the feet making them hot and red when it is flared up and impossible to wear regular shoes and socks, have blankets on them in bed, be in the heat or sun for long etc. I mostly live in sandals now which is difficult in Alaska in the winter. I finally found a pair of shoes I can wear when it is cold outside and some boots when it is really cold but most of the time it is sandals for everything.
So, I was in my regular sandals going into the store since it has been a comparativly warm fall. I felt leery of the shopping carts as I pulled them out thinking it could really hurt my feet if I ran into them. I don't know why I thought this because I go to the grocery story almost every day! This is not the store I usually go to however so the carts are a little different.
Sure enough as I pull the cart out I just barly hit my foot. It hurt for a second but was not a big deal. A half hour later I stupidly manage to run the cart over the back of my foot on the achilles tendon. I was pulling the cart from the front. It really, really hurt. I didn't know if I would be able to walk normally. After a few minutes I was able to limp away and finish my shopping.
Now I am trying to cool it down as the entire back of my foot and ankle are swollen and hot. I don't know if I will be able to go tomorrow. I really dont' know why I wasn't more careful. How or why did I do exactly what I thought about when I first took out the cart? Who knows. I guess it is like days when you are just accident prone. Yesterday at work I managed to cut my finger opening a small cardboard box...just not my week for injuries I guess.

Hope you get better Jessica. And your post makes a valid point.
I have noticed too that if I think something negative, often times that negative outcome does come about. So I try to be as mindful as possible to keep things positive.
Here's an interesting thought experiment on the positive side. Try visualizing yourself opening an envelope that contains $100 dollar bills. There is one outcome to will into reality. :-)
All The Best,
Ralph
I should try that! Of course it would probably work...except it would be the rent we collect from tenants!
Thanks
Jessica
Good afternoon Jessica,
I really hope your foot will be halfway ok so you can go on your trip. Take care and get better soon.
Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske
Thanks Taetske,
I actually stayed home to get some extra sleep. I just could't function on little sleep again. I needed it! My foot is sore but functional.

Yes! This has absolutely happened to me before (having a random thought and it eventuating). Makes you wonder doesn't it. I really enjoyed your post, you are a natural storyteller. What an interesting place :-)
Hope your foot feels better soon x
Thank you Lisa! I miss being out in the beautiful parts of the state. I truly love it.
Jessica
Well they say busses and accidents come in threes and it would seem you are true to the statistic.
Let’s hope you manage the adventure today and let’s hope your foot heals...
Thank you for taking the time to share, I find listening to others lives and what they do on a daily basis so interesting. 👍
Yes. I am feeling less accident prone today! Thanks Cordelia!
I stayed home. I really needed sleep since I have been so busy (probably why I was so accident prone!!). I am glad I did since I still feel tired and they did a ton of walking today.
Hi Jessica,
It is days like this that make you appreciate regular days! I also have had run ins with carts hitting my ankles from behind. But I don't suffer from the problem that you do. I suffer from psoriasis and my doctor has prescribed Humira. And it works like a charm. Psoriasis is not curable but can be controlled. That got me wondering if there is a biologic medication that can be used for your condition.
I wish you are feeling better now.
All the best.
Edwin
Yes. My husband has Psoriasis. They tried to get me to take Humira but I refused. It can cause serious problems if you have immunity problems or infections since it lowers your immunity. That is exactly the opposite of what I need. I take immune boosters every day or I get sick. I also have a chronic infection from the Epstein Barr virus which is very common. Most people are carriers and don't have symptoms but I get symptoms when it flares up (which happens when my immunity is low). If I had taken Humira I could have been very, very sick since we did not know about the infection yet. It can also cause leukemia and my Dad died of leukemia so I will never take Humira. I stay away from most prescriptions since the doctors don't seem to understand what conditions I have anyway and therefore what other reactions I could have.
I am glad it works for you though! I rely on natural supplements and treatments and they help me a lot. They keep me able to function, not get too sick and able to keep my job, be able to walk and not be in pain all the time unless I overdo it.
I stayed home and got more sleep which I desperately needed!
Thanks Edwin,
Jessica

Oh Jessica, I am so sorry that you are in pain! I hope that your foot gets better so you will be able to go on your outing with your husband. Strange how things like that happen. I had my 45 high school class reunion last month and I kept thinking to myself "Don't get sick. Don't get sick." Well, I didn't exactly get sick, but I lost my voice completely and no one could understand me, so I left early. bummer.
Have a blessed day.
Charlotte
I always worry about getting sick before a trip or big event so I know exactly how you feel. I take some immunity supplements now though and I rarely get too sick. If I stop taking them I always get sick.
Thanks,
Jessica
