Supposed to close on Monday! Rentals and website fulltime goal.
We are slowly making progress on the property purchase. We are set to close on Monday!! Our worries about losing so much rent for the month of April are mostly assuaged. We will spend less on interest at closing since we will be closing late in the month. This helps balance out the lost rents.
We are still waiting for access to the unit to fix the floor but all in all we are happy.
I am still struggling with the small size, and lack of windows and view in this place. I am so glad our plan is to only live there for a year before renting it out. The largest window is the sliding glass door that goes out to a small balcony but it faces the other building directly across. I had the idea this morning as I was wishing I could open the blinds to let some sun in, that I could put up some of the privacy vinyl decorations. I am not sure what they are called but they come in rolls with designs that look like stained glass etc. They let light in but you can't see through them. Maybe that would help brighten the place up.
The windows on the opposite side of the building are not bad. There are trees right outside with pussy willows right now and a few chickadees come by. We will set up a cat tower there for the kids to get their dose of sun and bird viewing.
From the landing at the top of the outside stairs (all the units have access inside the building hall/stairs and also from outside stairs that run up each end of the building), we can see across Cook Inlet to the mountains on the other side. There are very pretty sunsets but you have to stand outside to really see them. It is great there are outside stairs for all units for fire safety as well.
My husband is having a good time fixing everything up and making it livable. He has really needed this break from work but is dreading going back tomorrow. It has been so nice to have him relaxed and happy! I can't wait for him to find a different job.
Ok, I should actually go do my work since I am at work!
No progress on website etc. Just no time. I will get back to it after we close on property.
My Mom would consider buying more rentals if we would be willing to manage them for her...that could work out well if we really want to get into this business. Someday I envision doing rentals and my websites full time!!

You see, it's already getting better. I tell you, in a few month you will look back with your husband and will remember it as a difficult but good time. I passed through such times before with my family and even it's years since, we still talk about it.
It sounds like you've learned a lit during this process, Jessica. I have no doubt that you would do well should you decide to venture into rentals....hmmmm...sounds like a great niche to me!

I have a better plan for the balcony now. I will fill it with flowers in hanging baskets or planters on the railing. I will have so many flowers it will block the view of the neighboring building! Then I can open the door and leave the screen shut and smell the flowers in the house!
We got a pretty bird feeder to hang on the other side as well since I have seen a few birds in the trees by those windows. I will have flowers on one side and birds on the other.
