My Post Is The Featured Snippet On Google!
I am very happy to find I have a featured snippet on Google! The featured snippet is the featured search result that is above the list of results when you do a search. It is like getting an A+ instead of an A (#0 vs #1 position in search ranking). Everyone sees it and you gets lots more potential traffic with a featured snippet. I was getting a lot of traffic to this post today and it is an old post so I wondered what had changed. I went looking and found this!
There is a trade off however. I am sad to report I lost my featured snippet on Bing. I had it for a long time. I am not sure exactly but it was there for at least 6 or 8 months. It was for Jackson Galaxy Safe Space For Cats Drops. It seemed to help since I had a number of sales for that product and I outranked all the pet stores as well as the manufacturer's own site.
This Proves I Am On The Right Track With SEO
This current featured snippet is not for a high value product so I won't make a lot of money (it is just about apple cider vinegar), BUT this shows that I am doing well with SEO! If I can get featured snippets on Bing and Google then I am on the right track and there is no reason that I can't get even more. I just need to keep doing what I am doing and work to be more consistent with adding content. I need to continue to use good keywords, good SEO practices such as using headings and compressed images, and write my own post descriptions.
Do You Want a Featured Snippet on Google?
If you want your post to be a featured snippet on the search engines, make sure you choose good keywords and also write your own description! Don't let the description auto-generate and assume that is good enough. In some cases the auto generated description may be find but always check and if it can be improved write your own. Your post has to have good SEO criteria but it also has to have a very clear, useful description. That is the whole point of a featured snippet. Without a good description I don't think you will get a featured snippet.

I followed the basic training (OEC), not bootcamp. I also watch Jay's webinars when I can but I miss most of them...sadly. I want to go back and watch them all.

Not really. We had a 5.0 a few days ago and another 5.0 on New Year's Eve. We have had many more 3s and 4s.
They are less frequent than they were but of course we were getting aftershocks we could feel about every half hour so that isn't saying much!
I have not felt one today though. There are have been several days since the big one on Nov. 30th that I didn't feel any but only a few. Yesterday I felt many small ones.
The 5.0s are still big enough to make the existing cracks worse.
