My Longest Website Post Yet
I am proud to say I finally posted my longest blog post yet on my website. It is currently over 4,300 words but I keep thinking of more info to add. I am testing out the length/write a comprehensive review strategy. I don't think any of my other posts are even 2,000 words.
This is a topic I have a lot of experience in so I decided to just go for it. It is on my health and nutrition website on the topic of bursitis. I wanted to write an ebook on this topic and thought I needed to save my ideas for an ebook but realized there was no need to do that. I could still write an ebook as well as have the post on my website.
So far it is not ranking as well as most of my new posts rank. I am not sure if they is due to the heavy competition in that topic or something else. I would say it has to do with Google's crack down on independent sites offering any sort of health information after the "Medic" update but my other posts are doing just fine so that must not be it. I am requesting comments on Site Comments and I am sure those will raise the rank quite a bit. I will continue to do that and see where it ends up. Of course this is my secondary site that does not have as much domain authority as my first site so maybe it will take longer for the post to rank.
I started this weeks ago and it got stalled out while we dealt with the heat and smoke. The smoke is better than yesterday. It wasn't bad at all this morning but is moving in again now.

Hi Jessica. That's the thing about writing blogs about something you love, it's hard to stop. I have a blog that I'm working on, well actually it will be around six blogs now, that got to 16000 words unfinished. I made the decision to release it in parts. If I ever finish it. Jim
Good idea to release in parts...seems to me it would get your readers to come back for part 1, part 2, etc...and that would increase your traffic and possibly conversions...?
Wow!!! That is long!
I have always wanted to do multi-part blogs but it is hard to find titles that work and convey they are a multi-part. You can't (well, can but should not) title anything "Blah Blah part 1", "Blah Blah part 2" or anything like that with the same words in multiple titles. You don't want to create confusion for Google and the search engines so that your titles are competing with themselves. I have asked some of the gurus here and they say don't do it. Find totally unique titles for each one.
If you don't mind having totally unique titles then it is fine but then I am not sure how we can convey to our audience that there is a series.
I find unique titles for each one and I bring them together in a sub title at the beginning of the blog and I always let the readers know that the blog is a part of a series. So for example, I'm writing the A to Z of herbs and their uses. I have had to limit the amount of herb plants that I discuss but the blogs are obviously still going to be long. So I have broken them into Unique headings then I will place the title "A to C of Herbs" and D to G etc above or under the feature picture. and I can then link the series internally at the bottom of each page.
I would love to see them. Please let me know when they are posted. I love herbs. Are you talking about cooking/food uses for herbs or medicinal uses...or both?
My favorite food herb is lemon thyme.
Hi Jessica, that is a milestone and one to be proud of, do it once and you will be able to do it again.
I am sure that your post will pick up momentum.
I hope that smoke clears for you and the atmosphere gets back to normal.
Thank you Alex. The smoke comes and goes.
I hope the post picks up momentum as well.

Thanks...we will see how it turns out. So far it isn't good but I think that is due to having a lot more competition than I am used to. Hopefully it will rise up over time.
That is fantastic you wrote a post with that much content. I have already done that research on content length. The sweet spot tends to be 2k characters. to around 1500. if you go below 1k you may not even rank.
I would not discard that large post I know of ways you can publish your book on the web and for everyone that downloads it you get commissions. Let me know if you need help or are even interested.
Thanks. I have wanted to publish with Amazon for a long time but I just don't have the time. I guess the information in my post will help job my memory when the time comes however.
Most of my posts rank in the top few pages of the search results immediately and many end up on the first page. This one is about the worst I have had! Maybe I will stick with my average post length which is closer to 1500 words now. I have many that are only 800 or 900 that rank well however.
I will have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully this is a monster just building up steam and it will raise to the top!
If you create a new post 500 and under I was told it will not even rank and it may be classified as spam.
I don't have any posts under 500 words but I am pretty sure that is not true. It depends on the topic. Some topics can have shorter posts than others.
I don't know that longer is always better. This is about the worst ranking of any of my posts so far! I will have to wait and see what happens.

Well done Jessica.
That certainly is a major article, but if it is a subject you are well versed in, I can see how easy the writing becomes as you want to share everything you have learned to help others.
I hope you get a great response as the page starts to be found.
Best wishes
Gaz
Thank you Gaz. We will see what happens.
