More Creepy Technology Recording Us At Home!

This is in line with Mike's post yesterday but I just had a stunningly frightening example of technology recording us at home!

We finally got a Sleep Number bed last month. My husband can finally get a whole night's sleep which is great. It isn't so great for me but that's another story...I think the demo model in the store has the extra $300 memory foam topper on it and they don't mention to you when you buy the ridiculously expensive bed that it won't feel the same at home without it!! So now I am in pain unless I put foam on top. I am finding a cheaper alternative to theirs!

Anyway, today I got an email from SleepNumber telling me my first month's sleep report is ready...what? I didn't know I would be getting a report card on how well I sleep each month! I had learned after we got it that it monitors how well you sleep which my husband has on an app or something on his phone and he always tells me. The email took it to another level though. It showed my average number of breaths per minute as well as my heartbeats per minute!!! Wow, just how does it know this!!! It is interesting and maybe good for certain medical conditions but it is pretty creepy when you aren't expecting it!

So in addition to cameras everywhere recording us in public, we now have Alexa type devices in homes (not ours) that record you all day and night (creeeeepy!) and beds that are monitoring your heart rate and breathing!!!!!!!!! The robot age is officially here.

That's the IoT in action. We will have to kill the power to our homes, Jessica.

David

Yes, I want to move back out to the woods!

Yikes.
I agree that there are some legitimate uses for that type of technology, but this seems a bit excessive. And not to be too indelicate, but wouldn't that mean they also monitor...other types of bed use?

I have no idea! I don't even know how it works...but yes, it would seem that way!!! What if you had a big dog or something that slept with you? How would it know the difference between your breathing and his??

Wow Jessica, that is some serious spooky. Deb had been wanting to get one of those, not a chance now.
Bless You,
Sam and Deb

Ha ha! Yes, I don't blame you one bit! I really did not know it did this when we bought it!

The IOT~ Internet of Things is getting smarter all the time Jessica!

Yes! scary.

Jessica, I think Google knows everything we do.
Trevor

Yes, it seems that way!

Jessica I am creeped out as well about how our privacy is practically extinct.

Yes, really weird.

Do you have to log in when you go to bed? LOL!

No...I don't even know where the sensors/????????? are!

Jessica, that is so scary. I can't believe what is happening to this world. There is in NZ, and no doubt other countries, a Privacy Act. This Act is a joke! I fear for my descendants!

Yes Valerie, there are dozens of examples of this sort of thing going on all the time! It is really getting scary.

Oh Jessica...
The robots have been tracking us for years ... They are just getting more brazen about it. The fact that you are just getting reports now doesn't mean others weren't getting them long ago.

BTW, I do have Amazon Echo in my bedroom, Onstar in my SUV, and an android device on me at all times. I wonder if Google, Amazon and GM compare notes regularly on all my peculiarities.

Get used to it. Privacy is so last century :-(

I know this isn't exactly new but I am a bit old fashioned. We don't have Alexa or Amazon Echo or OnStar. I don't even have the backup camera etc. type stuff in my car or a digital radio or controls! My husband had to bug me for years to get a smart phone. I don't like all this stuff much! I miss living in the woods hundreds of miles from civilization...there was none of that there. We didn't even have phones when I was little, or internet of course, or even TV! There was not a paved road for 80 miles, or any road connected to the paved road for 20 miles! No way to spy on us except satellites!

I like that world without 'connections' myself, on occasion, and I've had lots of it in my first several decades. Not as connection-free as your childhood, but still WAY more isolated than now.

But, look at the bright side - when you get old and your mind starts to go, you won't have to lose your memories; since you have that smart phone, Google or Apple can sell them back to you!

Ugggg.
