Maddening comments

Please, please, please don't start a comment stating that you don't like the topic of the post you are commenting on. It sounds fake and doesn't make any sense. Just don't comment on the post if you don't like the topic.I just had one that started by saying they didn't like cats but after reading my post they "could tolorate them". Gee, thanks. That is a great comment for my site.

They went on to say the audience for my post would be "limited" due to people like them that don't like cats. I dissaproved this comment which I RARELY do. In the explanation of why I dissaproved it, I explained this was a low quality comment and seemed disengenous since someone who doesn't like cats probably wouldn't be commenting on a cat post in real life.

I couldn't help but add that the statement that the audience for the post would be limited was untrue. There are over 95 million pet cats in the U.S. alone! That number of pet owners means my audience is in no way "limited" by those who don't like cats.

I should have also mentioned this suggestion that the audience would be limited is feedback and not a comment anyway.

New members: Please don't waste our time with negative comments that will just be dissaproved anyway.

Please note: If you just close the page and come back later you will probably get a differnet post to comment on next time and therefore you won't acutally "skip" that post or affect your skip rate. If you are worried about clicking the "I am not interested" button, that might be a better option.

If I came upon an article which I am not interested in, I pass. I feel that I can't add any value to that post if I can't say anything positive.

I agree. It is the honest thing to do.

I know what you mean... Sometimes it does seem that people are just wanting to comment to get the credit or money. Some of the comments I have received are questionable.

When I am looking at a site to see if I will be able to comment on it or not, I click "view site" and if it isn't something for me, I just close it and move on to something else. I don't actually "skip" the post, I just close the window that way it doesn't count as a skipped post. I may have to wait a bit and refresh my page so a different article/website comes up, but I feel it is better to do that than to comment on a topic that I am not interested in at all.

Best wishes,
Karin :)

I do the same thing Karin. Closing it down and coming back later or actually clicking the I Am Not Interested button are both ways of being honest and making Site Comments a good place.

That is my trick too!

I admit that I have commented on quite a few posts where I am not really interested, or even disagree with the opinion. I take the time to find something within the post to latch onto. Then say something like "I have a friend who's cat does this, I shall pass this wonderful information on". I believe that providing comments is all about being helpful and building SEO, not about our personal opinions. I am pleased to say that I have yet to have a comment rejected, but sometimes it is hard to get enough words together to pass the criteria without sounding fake and repeating thank yous.

I have done the same. I don't start a comment saying "I don't like" whatever the post is about. I will find a way to leave a positive comment or pass on that post and not leave a comment at all.

I have no problem with honest comments like "I don't have a cat..." if they discuss a friend or family member who does.

Jessica,
I always have so much trouble deciding on some comments
they are not what I really want on the site for that post.
New people just do not comprehend the value of the comment
section and what is required wonder how they are going
to feel when they start getting the same kinds of comments :(

I agree. Thanks.

Cats ain't right. That is why I love them. Independent and aloof, just like I live my life.

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing, Jessica.

Thanks Roger.

You're welcome, Jessica. I hope you're not mad at me.

Of course not!

Who takes time to write on a topic they’re not interested in that they’re not interested? :)

Really!

Someone who wants to earn money for leaving comments and therefore leaves a comment on every post they can. I love the new activity on Site Comments but that is the downside.

I can relate, makes me mad when I see comments like this! I don't always read the entire post, however I make sure I have enough information relative to the post and that I am at least somewhat interested in the topic if am going to make a comment.

I agree. The whole comment was only a couple of sentences and two of those were what I described above!

I can see your frustration!

LOL (not funny but funny). If I read that first line I'd be like "then why did you bother reading this post and why are you commenting at all".

I agree, if you're not going to actually discuss the topic at hand (in a realistic manner) then just don't comment at all.

That said, I love cats but "have to hate" them because I'm allergic and can't be near them.

I hate that Site Comments encourages this sort of thing now. Due to the money incentive people feel the need to comment on every post they can even if they aren't interested in the content.

Well said Jessica :)

Sincerity is always a good thing Jessica
Thanks for sharing
Vicki

Yes, that is why I pass on a post I don't have anything positive to say about in a comment. You can just close the page and come back later and then it won't count toward our skip rate.
