Happy New Year from one of the Latest New Year's in World!
Happy New Year from Alaska. While Australia celebrated a day ago, we are just now getting to New Year's here. Only Hawaii is behind Alaska.
Geographically Alaska should span 4 time zones since it is almost as wide as the rest of the contiguous United States. (fun fact...it is incorrect to call the other 48 states the "continental United States" because Alaska is on the same continent. We used to have many arguments with companies over shipping rates to Alaska. The United States Postal Service does not charge any more postage to Alaska so we know we are getting ripped off if you charge us more and ship via USPS). In 1983 our time zones were changed however so most of Alaska is on "Alaska Standard Time". We are directly north of Hawaii but the time zones are drawn to zig zag around Alaska so we are an hour ahead of our neighbors to the south. So while the whole rest of the planet is in 2020, Alaska and Hawaii are still in 2019. That is an interesting thought. If you are near the border between Alaska and Canada (or anywhere else in the world near a time zone line at New Years) it is 2019 in one location and already 2020 across the line.
It was 50 degrees yesterday (New Year's Eve) and now it has cooled back down and we have gotten 6-8 inches of snow this evening. When I left this afternoon it was sunny and almost all the snow was gone.

Happy New Year (finally) to you since you guys are special and drug out 2019! Lol. I didn't know Alaska was in one time zone... crazy. It's way too big for that. But I guess it's easier this way.

Good morning, Jessica. Thanks for the interesting information about Alaska and Hawaii. And, it's good to become aware of where you live. I seems to help me to know where people that I communicate with live. We live in Nashville, TN. It sounds like your temps there were slightly warmer than here yesterday. How about that! Happy New Year (whenever it comes).
