Farm Day!
We went to our local U-pick farm this weekend. It was fun. There were pumpkins laying out for kids to play with, and lots of veggies to dig up. We got peas, bok choy, carrots and potatoes. There were raspberries somewhere but we didn't get to them. Many other veggies like broccoli were already picked over and nothing was left.
There was mini golf, jumping rides for the kids where they get strapped in and can bounce really high, hayrides and many other activities. There were hot dogs, corn dogs, carmal apples, Mexican street corn on the cob, desserts, pretzels with cheese, nachos, hot cider and more.
Best of all it was sunny at the end so we got to enjoy the gorgeous fall weather we have been having this year in Alaska. This farm is in Palmer which was settled by colonists sent from the Lower 48 states when Alaska was still a territory. It grows record breaking giant vegetables like cabbage every year.
We have looked at houses in this area but would need to be ok with a longer commute to work. It is a very nice area with deep rich soil and mountains close by as well as huge rivers.
I just wanted to share something positive after my last post!
Thanks to everyone for all the encouraging comments.

Wow! That sounds like my kind of place. Hope you get to make your dreams of a house there come true.
Yes, we didn't realize it but we happened to go there during their fall festival. What timing!
Going to the farm and picking your own is so rewarding sounds like a good time, the fall can be such a settled time.
Yes. It is a bit sad since I used to grow all my own. It is an adjustment to go dig up someone else's produce. It is still world's more engaging than buying it off the shelf though.
I really enjoy being in the dirt and picking the perfect produce!
Thanks Alex.
I always thought Alaska as covered with ice, not a place to grow a garden. Now I know I wish I was up there Texas is hot still.
No, not covered in ice...unless you go to the top of a glacier or above 10,000 feet!
My profile pic here is from our back yard before we moved. I grew up growing enough produce to feed us through the entire year. Winters are long but summers are gorgeous. Since we have almost 20 hours of light in the summer, crops grow very well!
It is nice and cool now. Our summers get into the 80's normally where I grew up in the interior and I saw 100 degrees once...true temp in the shade.

Thanks David! We didn't realize it at the time but we happened to be there during their Fall Festival...that is why there were literally hundreds of people everywhere and we had to wait just to get in and park!
