Excited to Have Gravatar Fixed! How to Deal with Technological Stress.

It seems so strange to have spent 3 days trying to muddle through my Gravatar/Wordpress email/new website/new user issues and that it was so frustrating. It seems like a tiny, little issue. I realize every time something like this doesn't work it is extremely stressful for me and I know for many of you.

We feel helpless when we don't understand these issues or have any idea how to fix them. So here is my advice:

Try not to panic. And don't give up!

Eventually you will find a solution. It may seem like it takes way longer and is more complex than it should be. It may feel like nobody fully understands your problem and when you try to explain it they don't get it!

I was pretty worried at first when Site Support didn't seem to be understanding my questions or giving me solutions that I understood.

You feel adrift with no idea what went wrong, where to find help or how to reel your boat back into shore since you don't even know where the shore is!

We have help here though. Members here are willing to keep trying until they help us find a solution. Site Support is there also to help if you come up with yet another question and try to address your problem from another angle.

You may need to try 5 or 10 different angles on the problem to get the right one that works. If you just view it as a learning experience and part of your education here it should go easier. I just keep telling myself. When this is over I will know how to handle it next time!

I am not sure exactly what the problem was. It could have been technical glitches, my lack of understanding the process or some combination of both. I just kept asking questions and trying things until it worked! Site Support was helpful but they said they did not do anything to fix it when I asked.

Hi Jessica,

I sometimes find it helps to walk away and revisit the issue later. If it's a tech glitch, I'll go write some content.

I am a computer teacher in charge of maintaining dozens of laptops - in addition to teaching a full class load. If I let the tech stuff get to me - I would be a basket case. Although even I have days where I feel homicidal.

Glad you got your issue sorted out. Gravatar is great when it works seamlessly. It's a nightmare when there is a glitch.

Bummer, Jessica. I don't know what a gravitar is yet, but glad you got it fixed! I have been out of town, away from my computer for 3 days, and my rank really shows it. Fell from under 50 to 96! But I expected a fall, and I'm back now working to improve it. Really want to get past the stuck spot I'm on with my training, and hoping I have some answers to questions I wrote before I left. I've responded to a few and tried their advice, but I need to be able to get screenshots from websites of various dance shoe manufacturers, and working on finding out how to get permission to do that. Your rank drop might not have too much to do with your lack of activity. There was a big rank shake up a few days ago. They have changed the algorithm used to determine rank. Some people dropped hundreds of even thousands of places. Some rose up that much. The new algorithm places weight on time we have been here so a new member that rose up quickly will get dropped back down.

I wish I had an answer for you on your problem.

The gravatar is the little picture you set that goes on multiple sites such as Wordpress (Gravatar is owned by Wordpress) and our websites as well as G+.

So next too my Admin or other user name I have set on my websites the little pictures shows up.

Good for you, Jessica! I need to work on mine, as well. My pic shows up when leaving a comment for someone else, but not when I respond to a comment left on my site. At least you had the stamina to figure it out:)

Hi Suzi, make sure that the email address you use on your WordPress user profile is registered on gravatar.com. You can have several email addresses added to your gravatar account.

Thank you, Marion:). I'm almost positive that I used my website email when I signed up. It used to work properly, but then stopped. How exactly would I go about checking this, if you don't mind me asking?!

In your WordPress dashboard click on the icon top right (Howdy, Suzi) and go to Edit my Profile. Or Users > Your Profile. Take note of the email address listed there. Then go to gravatar.com and check if the email address on your WordPress profile is listed on your gravatar account.

Sorry I am not helping too much here with details! Possibly something to do with changing the password in Wordpress (that was supposed to be one solution) but it seemed to be a little more complex than that.
