An organic searcher found my new post through my tag, despite low rank.
My new post has a keyword that gets over 2,800 searches but has a fair bit of competition. When I used a SERP checker this morning it said I was ranked at 141 for that keyword...not good. I was not too worried however since I knew it would take time to rise up through the ranks. I have never used a keyword with this much competition before. The WA keyword tool showed competition of 84. This is high for me but I thought worth the effort and time to reach a high number of searchers for a higher priced product.
Well, just now looking at Google Analytics I can see someone searched on Google and found my post using either "Cat Tree" or "Affordable Cat Tree" as their search term. I think it was "Affordable Cat Tree" since that was the tag I used that shows up in Analytics.
So, how did someone find me when I am so far down the list? This shows the importance of using tags! If not for the tag I don't think they would have found me. The tag narrowed down the results I assume. Although the monthly searches for this term according to Google Analytics are only 16 and the competition 39! So that appears to be a horrible keyword! I am not sure how this happened!
They proceeded to spend a good deal of time on my site and looked at 5 posts.
This is very encouraging for only the second day on the new post!
Onward and upward!

Looks like this time you're up to something bigger. Give it bit time and I'm sure it will come. Not only visitors but sales too!
That's great Jessica! This is all French and German language to me. Keywords, low hanging fruit, QSR, competition, traffic, all give me so much trouble. It's like I'm either terrified of the figures, over thinking it, or it's a permanent brain freeze! I'm a little worried about it actually! Now your talking about tags and SERP OMG!
But then I have not completed the training either!
Well done my friend, well done!
Becky :)
I understand Becky...I have not completed the training either...not even close! I just dove in...not recommended I know. I still get confused about some of the terms too. Don't worry about it at all! I don't even know why Google Analytics showed the two versions of the search term. I don't know how it shows visitors going to pages or posts of mine when those titles don't exist! I have no idea.
Just "fake it till you make it" as the saying goes!!

Thanks Chrissie! I just editing this posting. I don't understand how they found me since the competition according to our Keyword Tool is still 39 for "Affordable Cat Tree" and there are only supposed to be 16 searches for that term per month! Horrible odds!
