1 Step Forward and 2 Steps Back
I was going to write about the power of a positive attitude here today. Here is the good news: We finally have a tenant for the 6-plex unit that we have been working on all winter! I am so excited about this.
She has a very scetchy record. She is considered high risk due to credit, evictions etc. and has so many dings on her record that we would normally not even consider someone like this. I met her though and she was so positive, open and appreciative that I saw something greater than her past. She has a child and very good job now and seems to truly be moving forward in life. We decided to take a chance and she is so grateful and excited. I think she will be a great tenant.
I realized she is moving forward largely due to her great attitidue. If she was not such a nice, friendly person I might not have met her. She might not have taken a chance and contacted me in the first place and I might not have taken a chance on her. By the numbers alone I shouldn't. My parents let me screen tenants when I was a teenager and Dad always said I was a good judge of character. This time my husband was leery but he said the same thing. He said he could not question my judgement of character so it was up to me to decide if we took her or not.
So attitude can pull you through almost anything. We see many examples of this and of course here at WA we remind each other of this daily. When you are struggling it is vital to have a good attitude and not give up. Most everyone who is successful online has weathered the down times and waded through a slow start. Everyone who fails has given up. It is a waiting game, if you can hold out long enough you will be successful as your business slowly grows and grows.
So, as I was thinking about all this I was driving back to work after going over to let a contractor into the building. I ended up veering to the side in the parking garage as a woman was headed down in the middle of the ramp coming toward me as I was going up. I ended up turning the coner too close and running into the barrier at the top of the ramp with the sidewall of my tire. Within just a minute I had a flat tire. This is the "new" (to us) used vehicle that we bought this winter. It has GREAT tires...now I destroyed one of them. It turns out the tires are new enough I can just replace one but there are not any used or new in Anchorage and probably in the whole state. So we could repalce all 4 tires or get one shipped up to replace it. These are such good tires we don't want to get a whole new set so we are going to get a new one. It will take 2 and a half to 3 weeks for it to get here! I guess they put it on the slow boat. Normal mail takes just a day to be flown up but some larger items are shipped by barge or truck.
So I am trying to stay positive but it sure is hard. My husband is still hurting from dental work and needed to take time off work. My eye is bad, my foot is bad. Life is tough.
I hope your day went better than mine.
Onward and upward,
