1 Step Forward and 2 Steps Back

Last Update: May 09, 2019

I was going to write about the power of a positive attitude here today. Here is the good news: We finally have a tenant for the 6-plex unit that we have been working on all winter! I am so excited about this.

She has a very scetchy record. She is considered high risk due to credit, evictions etc. and has so many dings on her record that we would normally not even consider someone like this. I met her though and she was so positive, open and appreciative that I saw something greater than her past. She has a child and very good job now and seems to truly be moving forward in life. We decided to take a chance and she is so grateful and excited. I think she will be a great tenant.

I realized she is moving forward largely due to her great attitidue. If she was not such a nice, friendly person I might not have met her. She might not have taken a chance and contacted me in the first place and I might not have taken a chance on her. By the numbers alone I shouldn't. My parents let me screen tenants when I was a teenager and Dad always said I was a good judge of character. This time my husband was leery but he said the same thing. He said he could not question my judgement of character so it was up to me to decide if we took her or not.

So attitude can pull you through almost anything. We see many examples of this and of course here at WA we remind each other of this daily. When you are struggling it is vital to have a good attitude and not give up. Most everyone who is successful online has weathered the down times and waded through a slow start. Everyone who fails has given up. It is a waiting game, if you can hold out long enough you will be successful as your business slowly grows and grows.

So, as I was thinking about all this I was driving back to work after going over to let a contractor into the building. I ended up veering to the side in the parking garage as a woman was headed down in the middle of the ramp coming toward me as I was going up. I ended up turning the coner too close and running into the barrier at the top of the ramp with the sidewall of my tire. Within just a minute I had a flat tire. This is the "new" (to us) used vehicle that we bought this winter. It has GREAT tires...now I destroyed one of them. It turns out the tires are new enough I can just replace one but there are not any used or new in Anchorage and probably in the whole state. So we could repalce all 4 tires or get one shipped up to replace it. These are such good tires we don't want to get a whole new set so we are going to get a new one. It will take 2 and a half to 3 weeks for it to get here! I guess they put it on the slow boat. Normal mail takes just a day to be flown up but some larger items are shipped by barge or truck.

So I am trying to stay positive but it sure is hard. My husband is still hurting from dental work and needed to take time off work. My eye is bad, my foot is bad. Life is tough.

I hope your day went better than mine.

Onward and upward,

Jessica

I love that you gave your new tenant a chance, and I hope she does well going forward.
Life does seem to throw things like your tire at us. As you say, attitude is everything. Not much you can do be grit your teeth and keep chugging along. Frustrating for sure!
Life is tough right now, but focus on the good things--your rental is finished and rented and you have made someone else very happy!

Thank you. Yes. I will keep on.

Now we have to get ready to rent another vacancy coming up in our own building in June and work on the remaining vacancy in the 6-plex (where we just got the new tenant).

That was so kind of you letting your place to the new tenant growth opportunities come in the strangest ways.

Best wishes Jessica, I am sure things will work out, it may take time but better to get one than four.

Take care.

Thank you Alex. What do you mean "better to get one than four"?

Just referring to the tire, it is cheaper to get one new tire than having to buy four, so even with the wait it works out okay, I guess a slang expression " better one than four "

Oh, sorry! I am a bit out of it lately. Too much going on. Didn't mean to be so slow on the uptake there!

Everything happens for a reason, Jessica

Keep thinking positive and all will be well.

I am sure things will work out well for you eventually.

On my side, working on the Super Affiliate Challenge has been put to a halt because I fell ill recently. I had planned to do the work during a week when I finally had a bit more free time. But the universe had other plan for me.

I rested to recover. Now I am better.

But way behind with working on my website.

And I am ok with that. I believe everything will work out well eventually. Now that I have recovered and well again, all I have to do is work hard. And see where it all goes.

Wishing you a great weekend! :)

Hello Jessica,
Life is always full of ups and downs. I feel that you have the correct attitude of always trying to stay positive in situations such as tenant consideration and the tire accident. I am sure things will turn out to be alright at the end of the patient wait.

Best wishes

Paul

Thank you Paul. It has just been one thing after the other for the last year and a half. It is hard to stay positive.

I will keep at it.
