If I delete posts and pages that have been indexed from my website, do I have to do anything in Google Console?

Hi there,

If you delete old posts without redirecting the URLs, Google Search Console will report 404 errors for each of them.

The way to clear those is to get the post IDs *before* you delete them, and add each of those IDs to the 'Pages to be excluded' field in your XML sitemap plugin.

Once you have added those page IDs to your sitemap plugin and then deleted the posts, you can:

1. Resubmit your sitemap in GSC
2. Request removal of the posts from Google Cache.

Once the posts are removed from the Cache and the sitemap they will not reappear in the index and so will not generate 404 errors from Google Search Console.

However, do remember that if someone has bookmarked links to the posts that you have deleted they will receive a 404 error if they try to access the posts they have bookmarked, unless you have redirected the URLs.

Cheers,

Martin.

Wow Martin, thank you!!

Not that I am aware of my friend.

Hey Suzette,

If you are deleting old, outdated information, yes, of course you can delete it. However, be sure to redirect the URL of any of your old posts that you want to delete to other posts.

OR... better still,

Using the same URL... write a brand new post, and be sure to change the date on that post.

Not as far as I know. Why would you want to delete the pages though? Do they rank for keywords?

I am referring to post and pages that are promotional in nature to a product from a company that just got shut down.

So I am noticing that in order to share a post from your Facebook Business Page to your profile page, you must first change the user to your profile before you are able to shar

Hey Suzette,

WOW, you are right... sharing to our own timeline is no longer an option. Personally, I would not do that so that I'm not pestering my FB friends, so I never noticed that changed.

When I Google searched "how to share a post from fb fan page to fb personal page", Facebook's own instructions was offered as the Featured Snippet... and their second step clearly states that "your timeline" as one of the choices in their dropdown list.
https://www.facebook.com/help/202643666446137?helpref=uf_permalink

Feel free to respond to their question below their 4 steps, that asks "Was this information helpful?"

If enough of us click on "NO" and then "Other" and fill in the textbox explaining that "your timeline is no longer an option, why?" ...then just maybe that option will be returned.

It MIGHT just be an oversight on their part.

Great advice about responding to their question. Thank you. I am hoping not to come off as "pestering" my FB friends with an occasional post linked to my business page. I would not suggest posting these very often. Do you think it should never be done? Will you provide other ways to promote your Facebook Business Page other than just inviting people with a customize message, which I did. I did not sent a private message to each person. I am still not comfortable with that and not completely sure of how effective that would be. I may be wrong but I find that FB messaging people is more invasive then an occasional shared post. Don't get me wrong. I am not being argumentative. I truly want and need some guidance and think out loud most of the time :). I value your input as well as the community here at Wealthy Affiliate.

If your FB friends have "Liked" your FB fan page then your posts should/could show up in their newsfeed.

However, those who "Like" a fan page CAN opt out from seeing posts from any fan page.

Having listened to FB users over the years, I know NOT to start pestering my FB friends with my business posts, especially when they have not "Liked" my FB page, as many FB users that I have spoken with find many posts on their FB newsfeed that are not related to them to be invasive.

One person that I was told about, apparently posts MLM offers to ALL their FB friends right on their personal account. I'm betting that person has fewer FB friends than before. And, perhaps those who are true friends would have simply opt out of seeing their posts.

So... to answer your question, I can only tell you that I make it a habit to NOT pester my FB friends with any of my business posts.

What I have noticed is that if you setup your FB fan page with the proper "magnets", like your account name and header image, it will eventually draw REAL followers in naturally. I'd sooner grow followers slow and strong so that my page ranks better and better.

No real workaround a far as I am aware of Suzette, you can tag your business page in your post.

Does that help in any way my friend?

Tony

Would this be the correct procedure Tony?

Click the "What's on your mind?" field. ...
Type @ followed by the beginning of the page's name. As you type, pages will appear in a drop-down menu below your status; keep an eye out for the one you want to tag.
Click a page's name. This will tag it in your status.
Click Post.

:)

Is that a yes Tony?

Yes Ma'm Suzette :)

Thanks again Buddy :)

Well, I gave it a shot and of course my page DID Not populate UGH...

After playing around a bit, even though the page did not populate, it worked. Woo Hoo!

Awesome my friend!

How Do I know if my website has been verified in Google Search Console. It is listed as a property but I am not 100% sure it has been verified.

Hey Suzette,

Here's a video tutorial to help you: Hope you find this helpful.

Since it is listed, it ha been verified my friend :)

I also just found that if you go to Google Search Console and click on the settings tab for that property, I will show if it is verified.
