I am attempting to complete lessons 7 and 8 in Course 3. Having a bit of trouble signing up for AdSense. But they did send me a piece of code to place between headers, so I may

You are correct that Google will now approve you (or not), and it's just a waiting game. You do not get to select the ads that appear, but you can block specific categories like gambling, or adult. Those may be turned off by default anyway.

Ads displayed will depend on the user's search history, not so much the content on your site (thought they may be related)

Aha. I see. I want ads for The New Yorker - not zit cream - BUT There's no choice because it is keyed to the user, not what is going on on my site. Hmmm. I don't want people to be distracted from my pretty thoughts - hah! I guess I will give it a try - will look more professional and typical. I can remove the ads any time by removing that code from my site, right? Thank you so much! Makes sense now.

Yes, you can always remove ads later. Plus, there's always a case that ads will distract from affiliate offers, which could hurt earnings. It's just depends on what your vision for the website is. There are multiple ways to make money from traffic!

Thank you so much. That is exactly what I needed. So now, Google will evaluate my site and get back to me with yea or nay. Then what happens (assuming I get the nod)? Do I get to select the ads that appear?

Try this. It helped me.

I would really like a little more help with my theme - maybe this is the way to go? Thanks for any thoughts!

I would spend some time with what you have, changing them around every once in a while...

After you have found the theme that is the absolute BEST for you, then ask yourself the question, again.

Hi, I've seen Triblu make some very interesting comments on the advantages of pro themes, sometimes they are faster for speed, and I notice a lot of the very successful affiliates have pro versions of their favorite theme

- while it is not necessary, it doesn't sound like a waste either and could have some advantages especially if you can afford it

Though someone has raised a good point here on making sure you get the theme that suits you, otherwise it could be a waste and a free theme work better

I chose to upgrade the first theme I had and it was a waste of money. I ended up changing themes and it was free and way better

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hah! Good to know.

Hi Susan, it depends on what you are looking for in a theme e.g. do you need features like a certain home page layout, landing pages, reviews etc. When I started with my sites I only used free WP themes but after one year in I have been changing to Premium Themes because over time I have figured out what I want my sites to look like. For different niches, I use different themes. It took me a few months to find the themes I was happy with.
Check out MyThemeshop or Thrive Themes.
I hope it helps - Anke

That totally makes sense. Thank you so much.

I'd check out some of the freemium ones like Customizr that give a lot of options in their free versions first before considering buying a theme.

Only if you feel you will benefit from the premium options. You could also keep looking around until you find a free theme that meets all your needs :)

I think I am definitely benefitting from the cool graphic features. I also think the simpler themes like Hiero are easier to use. I want extra support, and I am willing to pay for it, unless the WA community thinks it is an unnecessary expense. I have invested a bunch of time so far into this site, and I don't want to change the theme because the one I am using is really appealing. Thank you so much for your opinion, Sharlita!

I am a Newbie adding content to my site. I am hesitant to add certain posts that are focused on products that I hope to eventually get that commission on. I am in the beginning

Yea I've been at it a few weeks and have a few posts. I was at the point in training where I have put out content but hadn't affiliated yet. I was thinking I'd establish, then go affiliate, but I just affiliated today and Im just going to edit my post and add it. Who knows, when traffic builds up, maybe people will go to my old post....We'll see

Your Keywords are aways your Keywords. You will probably be updating your old posts too. Many option.

Thank you ladies for that discussion. Like you Susan, I am at the same point with my site and had the exact same question.....Now I know. Thanks

There will be plenty more to write. You are also working on your site credibility right now. So it's not just writing and posting. I wouldn't even worry about saving for affiliate links because when you get to that point you can go back to your old posts and update them with the new links.

Thank you so much - that is what I wanted to know!
