Organic Traffic Is The Key
Sometime back, I had signed up for an affiliate program of a reputed online store for which I was instructed to upload a root.txt file in the root directory of my website. It sounded somewhat complicated to me then and I was on the verge of giving it up. However, I could finally upload the file with SiteSupport’s help and with it my sign-up was complete. Some days into my membership, interestingly, I got an email message from them asking me to generate more traffic since according to their data, the number of unique visitors to my site was too less for business. That’s perfectly understandable since my website was brand new but something in the email has troubled me since. It said:
“Our data shows that top publishers could earn more than $350 per day if their number of referred unique visitors reaches 10,000.”
I think it will be some time before I could have more than 10,000 unique visitors daily. But at least now, I have a target set. This is where the number of organic visitors is going to play a big role to my business.
I think, the whole SEO thing is about increasing organic search traffic and it only reaffirms the importance of relying on the traffic that comes from organic searches rather than via other means like PPC and buying backlinks. Real traffic is the organic traffic. If we could centre our efforts in implementing organic SEO, the rankings will come in. And with it, more traffic and ultimately more conversions.
Create a compelling content, use long tail keywords and focus on building up organic traffic. Hell! I thought making money through blogging was easy.

Absolutely! That is the basis of the teaching here at WA, starting out. Creating good content has allowed my website of five years now to garner page one rankings with many different pages and posts.
I have had spikes in traffic from social media posts, but the bread and butter have been organic traffic searching for what I am writing about. Compelling content plus good affiliate programs equals a money making website!
No, it's not easy, but it beats working for someone else!!

This was an excellent post about organic traffic. Because only organic traffic can generate that passive income, in the long run, we all are looking for. And there is no shortcut.
We all want a situation where manual adverts will be limited to a strict minimum. Let our websites do the work while we spend time with our families.
Sometimes it's a maze of confusion. Many contradictory views here on SEO. Some say keyword is the key, while some say do not think of keywords but just concentrate on adding value to the concent. Then, people say comments do not matter in rankings while others say they are good indicators of the value of the content and Google looks for it. It's never going to be easy and there's a big competition out there. But I remain positive. I think I'll be in a different position three years from now. I'm giving myself that much time :) Cheers!

They have set up this platform thanks to the years of experience they have with online business. That's what I've decided to do.
I feel happy to have come across this post because I feel frustrated from time to time too. But in my head I know ORGANIC TRAFFIC IS WHAT I HAVE TO TARGET.
I don't focus on short-term ramifications anymore. They will not last.

At the moment, I cannot work full-time here because I have my full-time job (yes, the 9-5 kind) in my office that sometimes compels me to remain away from my website for a few days at a stretch. I'm giving myself a long rope because if I can learn everything here in Wealthy Affiliate, I'm almost certain that I will be working from home in a few years from now, having freed myself from the shackles of my present 9-5 job. It's an irony: I need to remain in my 9-5 job to be able to work on my website. I need the money that my full-time work gives :)

Making money is rarely easy and yes you are right, increasing visitors to your site by using great SEO techniques is the best way to get traffic. However it does take time.
I hope you reach your targets sooner, rather than later.

It's going to take time, a long time in fact. The real challenge is in creating great content that is of value to the people searching for it. In time, I'll figure out everything. Content, SEO, ranking, traffic, business conversions are all related and seem to feed upon one another. There cannot be a missing link in the chain, it seems.

Affiliate marketing is simple ... but it's not easy. Publish or perish is just a relevant in our business as it is in academia, perhaps even more so.
Effective keyword research leading to creating compelling content sounds simple enough ... it's the rinse and repeat part many, many times that isn't easy.
But it's a proven process taught by the WA masters (Kyle, Carson, and Jay).
True. Nowadays, unlike in the beginning of my affiliate marketing journey, I'm trying more with the long tail keywords where the competition is much lesser. My aim now is to get ranked with the long tail ones. Let's see. I guess it'll take some time to gain a fair degree of "authority". But I don't mind; I'm here for the long haul.
Good plan ... I think Kw research is so crucial to getting those page 1 SERPs. This of course is what establishes your degree of authority. I call it "critical mass".
All of a sudden your traffic starts to increase on a regular basis. Then it's just a matter of time before conversions start to increase as well.
