I Have Slowed Down

My wife has been asking me why I seem to be working less on my site nowadays. Well, she actually thinks I’m wasting my time and she’s just trying to double-check if I’m coming back to my senses now. She wants to know if I now agree to what she has been telling me all this while that I will not be making any money online. She’s not against my online activities as such and fully understands that it’s my passion and something of a creative outlet for me. It’s just that she wants me to take my blogging activities as that only – blogging, and not be too hard on myself when I do not make the kind of money people are talking about, working from home.

I think I know why my wife feels I have slowed down. I have indeed slowed down too. I’m no more the wide-eyed newbie I was seven months ago when I joined Wealthy Affiliate. I worked really hard then and went through the certification quickly. But now that the initial excitement has gone down a bit, I’m trying to consolidate my training for a meaningful journey. There’s so much to learn and so little time. My wife sees me working less but nowadays I’m working more in my mind. Yes, my mind is constantly working and I haven’t lost my focus. In fact, things are beginning to be clearer now.

I started out with a niche site and had to abandon it mid-way when I jumped on the MMO bandwagon. Some people told me I should have continued with my niche site instead of having to spread out. I have my reasons. I wanted to learn everything about affiliate marketing, the WordPress, website designing, SEO, social media marketing and the rest. I wanted to understand the whole dynamics behind internet marketing and different ways of earning money online. I could have learned all these with my niche site as well. Since I was a newbie, I knew my inadequacies would have left me thoroughly exposed in what I see as a ruthless and fast-moving niche as MMO. But I had to throw myself in. It is almost an ordeal by fire but if I could get out unscathed, I would have gained enough knowledge to last me a lifetime. Life’s too short for regrets. I’m learning more each day. Have a great Sunday, friends!

Yes! Don't give up. Don't slow down.
I recently had some success, and blogged about it here - It will happen to you too. Just keep going.

I hope to see some measure of success soon. I'm not giving up. Thanks for sharing your success story. Congrats!

Thanks! :)
Yeah. Don't give up. Success is just around the corner.

I think we will always be learning. I can associate with your thoughts and while I haven’t slowed down, I feel I am a little unfocused in my direction and I need to gain some focus as to which way to take my site.
Wishing you every success and keep at it as it will all come together for you
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

This slowing down happens to most of us, I would like to think. It's similar to the midlife crisis in we people (though I wouldn't exactly call it a crisis) where we all through a transition brought about by the knowledge that we have gained, the realisation that internet marketing is an ever-expanding landscape and possible shortcomings or inadequacies in our craft.

Thank you for the post! I can relate to what you've written -- especially the part about not enough hours in a day! I have been very hard on myself for the past months, thinking that I am not getting enough done in a day, but with my situation at home, it is not easy at all to get done what I wish to.

I believe that the gears are turning and something good will come of it. We can easily burn out and then nothing of value comes to fruition -- working at your pace is what you need to do!

Keeping focused is very important.

Best wishes,
Cathy

People suffer from early burnouts when they try to do everything in one go, often forgetting that we need to pause in between to let things sink in properly. It's good to get the adrenaline going and for some people, they even work better when under pressure. I for one need breaks in between so as not to lose sight of my goal and to maintain sanity. Thanks for dropping by. Best wishes to you too.

Everyone has that initial excitement wear off at some point and then the slow down begins, but this is where you have to dig deep to find that motivation to keep moving forward. If you slow down a little bit, there's nothing wrong with that as a little bit of a slower pace can actually help move things a long giving you a chance to understand things better. Just don't come to a screeching halt like I've done in the past.

I love what I'm doing so much that I do not think I'll come to screeching halt. Slowing down after the initial rush is, I think, natural. Or at least I would like to think it's normal. I think from now on things will be slow but steady and consistent.

I agree with you, I think it is natural and we just have to continue pushing forward from there its just that the pace might change a little.

It is best to take your time and understand the inner workings of anything and do it at your own pace. There will naturally be peaks and troughs. I've been an ambassador here for over four months, fell off into the 500's, and now am knocking on that door again. I've been acquiring knowledge and taking action many different ways.

Yet I am still now only up to Certification 4, but which I am proud of. The point I am making is that your success in leaning and achieving is seldom ever linear. Or typical. Enjoy your journey, your are doing fab!

Sometimes slow but sure is the way to go. - Shirley
My husband doesn't really understand what I'm doing at all. He just thinks I work at the computer too much. I figure he's pretty sure I will never truly make money at this. But I hope to surprise him one day (I'm hoping its before the end of this year). I've been a member of WA since fall 2014 and still working to reach my goals. Actually, I hope to surprise myself also.

Your surprise will be many-fold by your accomplishing what you have set out to do.

The strength we gain in confirming ( to ourselves) that we are following the right path, is at once illuminating and exhilarating...bringing new energy/goals to the game.

Showing another, "we can" well, that in itself...too much fun!

Yeah, so true. It's challenging but I love that. Everyday is a new day and there's always something new to learn daily.

Now that the foundation is laid, I think I can afford to go slow. It keeps things in better perspective. It's nearly impossible to go at full steam all the time. Things get blurry and we tend to lose focus when we go too fast. Yeah, like you, I too hope to surprise myself someday.

My wife encouraged me to make money online and just keeps asking when? Thinking through what you are going to do makes a lot more sense that just creating for the sake of creating. It takes time to get a plan, refine it, and take deliberate purposeful action especially when you start out. I do that too.
Keep going. Never give up. And, have a great Sunday.

My wife is not entirely against this blogging business of mine. In fact, she's in one way happy that this has lessened my 'wasteful' Facebook and WhatsApp chats and movie download activities :) Well, I always say I'm here for the long haul. It's just the beginning. Cheers!

Your blog transpires inquisity and lets one to look back at how our journey in affiliate marketing has taken us so far and where?

Well, I must tell you that you can remain cool towards your wife or any other social obligations for that matter.

You see, we continue hearing many success stories live from our members here. Each of us are planting a seed that needs proper nurturing and pruning that comes of course, with a little bit of time to get it matured.

I encourage you to give more time to SEO and WordPress.

You made a thought-provoking blog.
keep the candle burning.

Cheers!

I feel I have some semblance of a foundation laid out. Now, I need to build on. I'm so glad that I found Wealthy Affiliate. Remember how I came here? Of course, you do. You brought me here. It's one of the best things to have happened in 2017. Cheers!

That's awesome

I think it's human nature to be overwhelmed at first, then slow down or maybe the better term is to gradually sink in to the thing or better still focus more. As long as you have not abandoned your idea or your project, you are still there.
Yes, we are learning each day, that;s the best thing. Good luck to more success!

Marita

Thanks Marita,
My sentiments exactly...we are calling this a "process" for our long term success. We have all read somewhere about "successful habits", when in doubt look for your consistency in maintaining these, redefine, readjust according to the goal and I believe foremost, "enjoy the journey".

Thanks, Marita. I'm still sailing on and I'm never going to abandon it. Now I'm in that phase where the confusions for most concepts are not there anymore. Even if there are, I know the approach road to tackle them. Good luck to you too!

It's ok to slow down and even stop to "Sharpen Your Axe" as I say as long as the focus of where you are going remains. "Sharpening your axe" is a time for learning so you can do things better and quicker.

It's a marathan and not a sprint. I am following Kyle's realistic 5 year journey: I started around the same time as you and in my mind I am not expecting much to happen in the first year. I keep adding a post every 3 days and keeping my focus.

I have started to make little money from Google Adsense and have had few people join WA. So, slowly things are happening!

I am also in the MMO niche as this is an evergreen niche and I really enjoy helping people get started online.

Keep going.. onwards and upwards!

Wish you much success!
Moni

Wish you success too, Moni. I too enjoy being in this MMO niche despite its competitiveness. True, there's no greater happiness than being able to help people when they start out on their internet marketing journey.
